Question import difficulty

Ok, I have emailed MTU, I have called MTU(got a recording, every time), I have mailed a letter; and, I have tried the forum. It was difficult to get connected to the forum. Here is the problem: when I first bought Hoster, it downloaded discs fine. Now I get the hourglass( not responding message) most of the time. It is ridiculous that it can take me from 3 hours to three days to download one disc. I have shows to do. I have missed most of the summer, sitting at the computer, trying to load my discs. I have to take a karaoke machine with me to my shows, because Hoster bumps/skips the songs downloaded by other singers discs. Do I have a bad Hoster cd-rom? I bought 3.006, I recently upgraded to the 3.108, waiting for the 3.2 version. Same problems, nothing seems fixed. Is there help out there? All I want to do is download my discs, and do my shows. Help, Help, Help. I'm sure I am not the first and only with this problem. I love Hoster, otherwise. Daryl, the Karaoke Guy. I also thank anyone in advance, who can help.

If Hoster worked fine once it should work fine forever... unless you've got a corrupted file somewhere. The tiniest little file somewhere can screw up everything if it becomes corrupted.
The fact that you upgraded and still have the problem leads me to think it's not a file installed by Hoster, but it is a file Hoster relies upon.

A couple of suggestions:
Check your event viewer and see what the error messages tell you. The mssg will provide a link to microsoft that might give you a clue about that error.

Based on what little info you provided it might be a corrupt driver for your cdrom, reinstall that (and update it if one's available).

Run a windows repair.

Worst case scenario, reinstall Windows and Hoster (and of course all your drivers).
NOTE If you reinstall Windows, Hoster may think it's being installed on a second machine (which you are permitted), which you might have to deal with when you do add a second computer.

Hope this helps.
Sam

[quote=WDEWDAD7] It was difficult to get connected to the forum. /QUOTE]

There appears to be something really slowing the pc down. In addition to what's been suggested.

How many programs are running in the background? Are they necessary?

When's the last time you ran DISC CLEANUP and DEFRAGMEMTED the hard drive(s)?

sounds to me like hoster was installed on any old computer laying around the house.

i recomend a fresh start and reformat the computer and reinstall windows, then all windows updates, then your video card driver updates from the manufacturer, then Hoster !

if you stay off the net with the computer and only load hoster and a DJ software you will have no problems.

you can get future versions of hoster from another computer then transfer to your karaoke computer.

Thank you for replying to my issue. First of all, the entire computer is new, built from scratch, with all Hoster requirements or better. Hoster DID work when I first got it, importing gradually got worse. I have talked to the guy who built my computer. He is stumped as well. I have not been online with this computer, except for my recent Hoster upgrade, for the sole purpose of not getting it virused or corrupted. I will do future upgrades the way you recommended. One question I have is: If I HAVE to reinstall either Hoster or Windows, am I going to lose what I have already downloaded? I have a lot of time invested in downloading my discs. I haven't even downloaded half of my discs yet. And yes, I have cleaned and defragged. I did have one major crash, downloading a Sound Choice disc, nothing but blue screen. Windows repair was done at that time. It seemed to work a little better after that, but, the import problem remained.

Thank you for replying. It is so nice to finally get some help. I love MTU products, but, I am not impressed with MTU support. I understand the purpose of the forums, but, sometimes, you may need to just talk to someone one on one. I have replied to one other helper, and I would like to reply to you. I did run a Windows repair, after a major crash. I have cleaned and defragged. I have stayed off the internet, to prevent virus and corruption. My computer is all brand new, built from scratch per Hoster requirements or better. I am going to check into a suggestion about a possible missing dll, and a couple other suggestions. One major question I have, in the worst case scenario, if I have to reinstall Hoster or Windows, am I going to lose what I have already downloaded. As I stated, I have a lot of time invested already, and have not even downloaded have of my discs yet. A side note, I noticed you were from Spokane. That is where I am from. Private message me if you would like. I miss the old place.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS Back up to an external drive. Hard drives like anything will go bad sooner or later and murphy's law usually dictates sooner.

If all you do is reinstall then windows will just overwrite itself and everything else will remain.

If you format AND install you will loose everthing.
but don't take chances, use a backup HD.

OK, I hope that I can get some help, somewhere. I bought Hoster 3.06 in 2/05. I have a built to requirements or better computer. I have Windows xp Pro, 200 gb harddrive, just increased to 1 1/2 gb memory, Plextor Premium Drive 106. I have upgraded to Hoster 3.108, then 3.12. When I go to import, sometimes it works, some times it doesn't. The inconsistancy confuses and frustrates me. It will go into import, and then I get the hourglass. Hit ctrl, alt, del, and it says " not responding". Sometimes I can download 5 discs and hour, or, spend 2 hours trying to get it to open. I know I have posted this before, but, I would like to "talk" to someone...anyone, who knows what they are doing. I understand that the forums are necessary, but, sometimes , you need to "talk to a person, to fix the problem." I hope someone from MTU reads this, and understands, sometimes , you need to "talk with the person having the problem." If support is so secluded from the consumer, it doesn't give much confidence in their products...of which I love their products. I really need a one-on one solution; or, if it is possible, did I purchase a deffective software cd-rom.[quote=WDEWDAD7]Ok, I have emailed MTU, I have called MTU(got a QUOTE]

Wdewdad7,
This problem is something in the Computer itself that is causing the problem. It almost sounds like you might have a hardare failure of some type, which could also be the Plextor drive that you are using. You might want to try using the Plextor drive with some other software and see if it gives problems.

If you had a bad CD or download, the software would not install or work at all. So this would not be the problem, the problem is the System.

Have you done the updates as Beavis has stated?

Thank you for replying. I did as Mindonstrike suggested. I saved to another hard drive, and re-installed Hoster; and, I purchased and installed a brand new Windows XP Pro, and updated. I did have a couple of corrupted files( songs ) that did not show up until saving. This has illiminated a couple of issues. One, I can play a singers disc at a show, instead of dragging my karaoke player along. I can import discs now, with the exception of the occasional ( not responding ) issue. I can live with that. It is still giving me difficulty " typing " in discs not in the database. Don't know what that is. And, occaisionally, when I turn the system on, the singers display is on the moniter, and not the TV. I have noticed that if I exit out, re-open, go to Tools and recognize the drives, then close and re-open; it comes back on normal. Weird. If I have anymore problems, I will get a hold of you. Thank you, and everyone who has helped with suggestions. OH, I have kicked my memory up to 1 1/2 GB. Is there a particular problem with the Plextor drive I am using? Plexter Premium 1.06. Daryl

That plextor drive works fine. Not sure what would cause this to happen other than something in the computer itself.

Since I wrote last, importing new discs fine. A little slow at first; but, working. I am downloading discs like crazy right now. Still the occasional ( not responding) in the windows task manger. Don't know what causes it, just a mild irritation. I just close Hoster, and restart computer, then reopen. I will be glad to get remainder of my discs downloaded. Thank you, Daryl
