Laptop Hardware Changes?
This is a continuation of my previous post... I am using a Dell Inspiron laptop. When I installed Hoster it was a clean install on Windows XP SP2 with all critical Windows updates applied. I did install Hoster with a LinkSys wireless PC Card inserted in the laptop. It worked through several reboots. I have been transferring KMAs from my desktop PC using a USB memory key. Hoster has been working even though I've been inserting and removing the USB memory key. Today after I transferred some KMAs I tried to start Hoster and got the "serial number doesn't match" error. The LinkSys PC Card is still inserted.
My anti-virus program - AVG Free - has been updating itself. That is the only thing that I know of that has changed. Since my first show is in 3 days, I am going to be desperate if reinstalling Hoster doesn't fix this issue. If I need to reinstall Windows XP from scratch, will I need MTU to reset my records so I can reinstall Hoster? I'm afraid Hoster will say I've exceeded the two-PC limit. |

Serial Number problem after upgrading to 3.10
For the umpteenth time re-installed hoster 3.110 - Inspite of Flag/error box -
"something wrong with your registration-read note below" (nothing displayed) Hoster opened. I closed and successfully opened and closed it thrice more times in immediate succession. Went to gig it opened (first time at a gig) returned home would not open. Tried again at the same hotspot that I had previously re-installed it would not open. I am unable to rely on Hoster and have decided to cease using it. If mtu are able to resolve the problem in near future I might take it up again as I wanted to move on to making karaoke editions of my own songs - but if nothing improves I will be seeking refund and compensation. Bye (hopefully) for now |

Status of MTU research?
MTU could you please give us an update on what you've found, if anything? We'd all appreciate it. Thanks!

The engineer is still working on this. He has found something dealing with the USB devices, that could be causing this.
If you install the Software with NO USB devices connected, you should not have the problem. Connect these up once the software has been installed and this should no longer occur. Let me know what you find.

I didn't have any USB devices when I installed Hoster
I hope the developers are close to finding something, but I didn't have any USB devices connected to my laptop during the install. I did use a USB memory stick to transfer files to the laptop, but the memory stick wasn't connected during the install.
On the other hand, my backup PC DID have a USB wireless adapter connected during the install. Hoster has not failed on that PC (knock on wood). |

We found a problem with our security related to plugging/un-plugging USB devices that we believe we have now fixed. Things have worked for years, now USB changes the ball-game.We respond as fast as we can. We also have loosened up our security so it should be less sensitive to reinstalling Windows. We have spent the past 2.5 months finishing code to interface to "more" CDR/DVDR drives that support DAO96 RAW format. Some say they do but don't. There is no way we can say if a drive works or not. Trying Hoster 3.2 (next release coming up) with a drive and importing is the only way to find out. ![]() We were adding VCD play also, but due to the security pressures, and working with more drives, today I have removed VCD. We are restoring back to the Hoster 3.110 player that works. We'll put VCD in the next release once we can get it to work. This has been unexpectedly very frustrating to us also! ![]() PS: This Thread started on July 5. Today in August 9th... I think that is 34 days start to now. We expect to get a Beta Version out tomorrow that we hope is the final 3.12 release. Solving a problem of this magnitude is not easy as it affects our core protection for our products. We are also bringing a new web-site on-line shortly which we had to test the changes on also. The problem should be solved shortly. |

Not usb or firewire device...wireless card
I've been experiencing the same thing as the rest...didn't know what was causing it till I read through this post.
I just wish I would have read it sooner...would have saved me alot of time uninstalling and reinstalling. I use a firewire external hard drive for all my kma files. It's aways plugged in when I start hoster so I didn't figure that was the problem. But when I tried starting hoster earlier today, I got the dreaded message. After reading through this post, I tried disconnecting the external drive. No help. Then I pulled out my wireless pcmcia card and voila, that did it. Hoster started up fine. No reinstall necessary. And as you can see, plugging the card back in AFTER hoster started is okay. What a relief! ![]() |

![]() Got the error AGAIN, this time without the wireless card plugged in.
I've tried rebooting..no help. Looks like another reinstall...with a gig coming up on Saturday. Is there a fix for this yet? I cannot afford to get to a gig and have to reinstall without an internet connection available. Someone please respond ASAP! |
