Internet card broken

Hello all. My wireless internet card is broken on my desktop computer. I understand that my registation number is installed in the internet card. What are the steps that I need to perform in order to install another card, but keep my registation in tact. Can I move the registation into the onboard the motherboard and use the ethernet port on the board? FYI. I am running Hoster 2.917. Thanks

Re: Internet card broken

I don't think it is tied to the ethernet card anymore. I believe if you change out only that card, you should have no problems.

Re: Internet card broken

it is not tied to the ethernet card, it is tied to the internet to MTU.

only the older versions are tied to the ethernet.

Re: Internet card broken

Thanks for the quick reply. First, I know its tied to the internet card because if I go into internet properites and disable the broken wireless card and then try to open Hoster, I get a window that states my registation does not match. If I then enable the broken internet card, Hoster will work!

Second, so are you saying to just install another internet card and that is it?

Im just trying to save your time and develope a good thread for the next person who has the same question.

Hey, its a great day, its FRIDAY! Thanks everyone!

Re: Internet card broken

well, I was under the impresion that the ethernet lock was changed, but from what you say it is still needed.

you can add another ethernet card if that one is bad, and they can both coexist with no problems. I have several ethernet cards on the same computer. so you dont have to remove the old one if it is tied to it. maybe the MTUSUPPORT will chime in with a response.

Re: Internet card broken

Thanks for the reply. I have another identical wireless card to replace the broken one. So I don't know if two identical cards can co-exist in one computer. Plus, I don't know if I have a empty slot on the motherboard. And a minor thing is carrying the extra weight of the broken wireless card from show to show inside the computer. I snapped the external antenna on the wireless card, and who knows, now that card may be running on borrow time. And knowing my luck, it would break during a show! Later

Re: Internet card broken

I remember that one of the first versions of hoster required an ethernet card.. or a usb ethernet connector. This was changed a very long time ago. you should upgrade to the latest version.. it is so much better

Re: Internet card broken

Thanks for the reply. I have my broken wireless card and I have my built in ethernet port on the motherboard. I even tried the enabling of the ethernet port and I still got registation number not recognized. So please help someone. My wife computer has the identical wireless card and she is now on a hard line. Tonight, I was going to remove her wireless card, remove my wireless and install her wireless card. I want a good plan when I start this as you never know when the phone is going to ring with a last minute karaoke gig. Thanks!

Re: Internet card broken

Hello. OK. I went and removed my broken wireless internet card. I pressed back on the rubber antenna and reinstalled the same card. It is now receiving again. However, I still have not got a answer on my initial thread. Again, this would be great information to have posted. Thanks

Re: Internet card broken

Now I may be wrong on this but I do know there is no way your wireless lan card can hold any registration information. So that must mean that the version of Hoster your using must be using the cards ID#. So if the version of Hoster is connected to this ID# the only way you can change this would be to contact MTU and ask them to reset your registration so you could register you Hoster with the new ID#

Best,

Roger

Re: Internet card broken

Card ID or Hoster ID, It is still Hoster that WILL NOT WORK if I disable the wireless card. And if my repaired card fails on me, my Hoster doesn't work. MTU support personnel! If you are watching and listening, you need to comment on my thread! Because, I still dont have a course of action, for me or your other readers.

Re: Internet card broken

I have just tested this on my system Windows XP Pro, with all Windows Updates. It works fine. I can disable my card and it will still work correctly.

The last version that was tied to the Network card was 2.014, their might have been another version after this such as 2.016, but this was released on a limited basis.

All of the 2.1xx and up should work fine if your card were to break. There must be something else that is also changing, somewhere.

All you would need to do, is reinstall Hoster and it should then work.

What version of Windows are you running? Do you have all of the Windows Updates installed on your computer from: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Re: Internet card broken

I have version 2.219, running XP home with sp2. I have auto update on for microsoft. And I just tried it again. Open hoster. Close hoster. Went to internet options, disable my wireless card. Attempted to open hoster. It said "registation or serial number does not match, try installing hoster". I went and enable the wireless card. I was able to open Hoster. So, something is related to the wireless card. Check the records, what did I start with? Again, I have no course of action. But I did get MTU support, so you're trying. And I thank you!

PS. I went to Microsoft and checked for updates. The only one was on Frame 1.1 for sp1. I don't think missing it would create a issue like mine.
