I gotta vote against retaining this setting. I really doubt that most KJs run consistently on a single channel, and odds are that a very low percentage of their songs are multiplexed. I would much rather see it selected on a song-by-song basis, with the default being all channels, since that's what your songs will be 99% of the time.

Karaoke Should Always Be Played On Left Chan Mono, Never In Stereo. As Recomended By Pioneer, Sony, And Many Others. Left Chan Mono Does Not Mean You Only Get Music From One Speaker. But You Do Get Same Quality Sound From Both. Bob

All KJs I Know Run In Mono, Only DJs Use Stereo. Just My Two Cents.

I would prefer to leave the vocal control default in the stereo mode, with a manual overide for multiplex. Most of my music, approx 95% of my cdg's, is performed in the stereo mode. I only switch to mono mode when a disc is multiplexed. I tend to purchase more stereo music than multiplex.

these guys are definitely right about the bridged mono configuration...always the best for karaoke. As for Hoster, it will let you choose how to import these tracks so you don't have to change settings back and forth. Please DON'T change this function.

I use a Bose speaker system which handles combining the left and right channels, so I prefer to use the stereo output from my mixer and let the equipment combine things appropriately.

Stereo signals will have some instruments or parts of an instrument on one channel and other instruments or portions of it on the other channel. This is how it gives the illusion of having a live band in front of you. If you simply turn off one channel you are losing the instruments that were on that channel. Multiplexed music TENDS to be a mono signal to begin with but with lead vocals as well on one channel or the other, which makes it possible to turn off the vocals without the music suffering.
To run stereo music in mono you need to combine the signals not just chop half of them off. Some mixers will combine a stereo signal for you and give a mono output, otherwise you need to use a "Y" . It would be handy if Hoster (or my soundcard software) would have a mono option, but using the L/R option for stereo signals is not the best way to go.
I ran karaoke in stereo for 5 years with great results, since changing to a BOSE PAS system I've had to switch to mono. 6 of 1, half dozen of the other.

As far as retaining the left mplx settings. Mark the song (in the manual how to). edit the songs later, and it will save these setings for that particular track. you can also select it when importing, and it will also remember. when you do the edit it changes it in the songs database as well as in the file header it writes. so you wont loose this setting when you do a database rebuild.
