Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

I did an install of XP SP2 on my HP Pavilion ZV5000 computer over the weekend and in a mad panic installed it before a show today.

Although Hoster loaded, other programs like anything that played mp3, wav, wma, mpeg or even a DVD wouldn't work. Once I uninstalled SP2, everything went back to normal.

I am still waiting on an email from HP.

On my main home system however, installed SP2 with few problems and Hoster works fine.

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

My Hoster laptop worked fine after my SP2 install and re-install of the latest update. However, I have no other programs on my computer, so I don't know if those would have been effected or not.

Thanks for the tip. I just installed it. How does one find out when something new is available like Directx 9. I had no idea until you posted the information.

gduns

Have you had any sort of a problem since installing Directx 9.0? I have been getting pop ups telling me that Windows has a problem with this or that program, and needs to shut it down. Never got these before I installed Directx 9.0.

I have not used Hoster since the install so I hope I have no problem with it when I use it tomorrow.

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

I just tested the Hoster program on my laptop and all seems well. Thank Heaven.

However, in the past, when I opened Hoster and started a song using the laptop and not connected to another TV, I would get a full screen of the song being played until I double clicked it. Then it would go to the small screen in the upper left corner.

Now, I do not get the full screen, and double clicking on the little screen has no effect. What happened? Why does it no longer come up with a full screen?

Why are you waiting for a show to find out? Do you like surprises in public?

Not trying to be argumentative, just don't understand the rational.

George

P.S--running XP with SP1&2 and Direct X 9.0c with no problems.

I agree with george on this also

as I posted earlier, I had to reload some of the original drivers for sp2 you may have to reload your video driver, I would check it out somehow before the show.

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

Hello All,
Seems Microsoft have admitted there are conflicts, when installing SP2, on computers running with Intel-4 and Celeron CPU's, which cause the computer to stop recognizing the operating system, and refuse to start.
Also the beefed up firewall protection has caused problems in accessing certain programmes.
I have used AMD CPU's for years now and was reluctant to download SP2, finally did, Microstudio and other MTU programmes are running without any problems. Touch Wood!
Regards from across the pond.
Garry

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

Those conflicts must not be across the board. I have Intel P4 and have had no problems. Guess it's the luck of the draw. I know I hesitated a long time before installing SP2, but finally plunged, and the water was kind to me, at least for now. Just knocked on my desk

Take care,

George
