Getting Started
I know I mentioned part of this in another post, but I will make this one more specific.
I just got my Portable PC yesterday (from MTU), all loaded up and ready to go. Am I to assume that all of the operating software is up to date (XP, Hoster, etc)? Should I go out on the net and do all of the applicable Windows Updates? MTUSUPPORT ADDED: All the Windows Updates have been done, as of the day that it was shipped to you. What about virus software? MTUSUPPORT ADDED: You can add this if you would like. If it is going to be used as a normal computer for Email, then this is a must. Or, can I just start putting music on and run with it the way it is?MTUSUPPORT ADDED: It is all ready for you to run with it they way that it is. Are these units shipped "ready to go"? MTUSUPPORT ADDED: Yes, the system is all ready to go, except for you loading your music.

Microsoft's website will scan your computer for the latest updates and tell you if you are current or not, as well as give you the option to update.

tymzend,
There is not such an animal as a computer "ready to go" with all updates. Not on a Microsoft Windows Platform. Chances are that between the time MTU ships it and the time you receive it, something has changed and you will need to update. Always make it a habit to check for Windows updates at least once a week, if not daily as I do. Good luck |

I am aware of the need to keep things updated. I am very strict about that with my home PC's. But, I just didn't know about how touchy these PC's are with running the Hoster software.
I hear people talk about audio dropouts during shows, etc. That, to me, is unacceptable. So, I worry more about having a bunch of garbage on the computer that doesn't need to be there. The cleaner I can keep it, the better for the software, I'm sure. Thanks for your input. I'll get the updates done when I finish loading up the discs. I don't plan on connecting it to the net until then, especially right in the middle of loading all of the music.

Tymzend,
I have just answered your above Post in Red. You are correct about keeping the system clean, but it is all ready to go as it was shipped to you.

Thanks Brian!
Couple more things......... What can I expect when I get to loading my Sound Choice CDG's? I have the Foundations, all the Bricks, and a bunch of Spotlight series stuff. (probably 140 discs in all) Am I going to run into the "Track 15" issue on all of them? I also have SC 3 discs in the 8700-8735 range (I think that's the range) that have the Mediaclog issue, too, I believe. I think I read that I need to send those back for replacements. But, I just got them 3 months ago, so would there be any chance that those are reproduced without the Mediaclog on them?
