KHPcolors using Leader decoder

Have a component system that uses the Leader CGD decoder. Colors change, sometimes to the point that it reverses to blue border with black text block making it impossible to read text. I feel the problem is the decoder but can't understand why because I also have an all in one Karaoke player(Ventura), and it works just fine with it.Also, graphics will not appear on tv if I turn on the decoder and play a KHP generated cd FIRST. If I play another cdg first and then switch, then the KHP cd will send graphics to the screen, but with the before mentioned color problems. Am using a JVC 334BK CD Player with the Leader decoder. Anyone else encountered this problem?
Thanks, George

I have seen this! I have turned the decoder off and then on again to clear the screen. It works sometimes. Also I have noticed when no graphics come up for the first track played on a khp cd, if you let the song play out, the next track appears fine. Why is this? I can't figure it out. I believe it is a transparency problem. Sometimes the graphics appear colored correctly and other times in different colors. This happens with every cd player I have accept our Hitachi 77's. For some reason the Hitachi's play everything and anything perfectly! We have 8 JVC800's and several different JVC home units, which all have this problem with a couple of discs. It isn't everytime, but it seems to choose when it wants to work and when it doesn't. I too am looking for anyone else with these problems. Looking forward to anyone who can pin point the reason. Thanks Corbin

that use to happen with my decoder with manufacter's discs. found out my adapter was polorized wrong and haven't had that problem since. This happened after I lent out my decoder to a friend and he lost both wires to the unit. when I purchased a new pwoer adapter I guess I didn't check the polarity and started having the screen distort on me on ceratin discs between songs. As I said the switching of the polarity on my adaptor fixed that problem. Now if I could figure out how to use the decoder with my BMB AV switching amp in concert with my JVC player I'd really get things moving. as it is I can only use the JVC player.
ANy suggestions.

Thanks Danny-G. Immediately changed my decoder polarity with no such luck.Wish it had been that simple. Thanks anyway. Am keeping my fingers crossed that this may all straighten out when the new KHP hits the streets. Who knows?

make sure your polarity matches what the back diagram shows or it will happen on more discs. you may have gotten a bad decoder as well.

Starting to see a common link here that disturbs me, and it's JVC. When I started searching for a different brand decoder I wound up at Voco Pro's site and JVC is not on their list of compatible cd players. Perhaps something there, hope not. Maybe MTU should get a tad concerned as JVC is not exactly some "off brand", and if that's the problem and not the decoder or the software in it's present form it might be solved in the software programming. Dunno, just brainstorming.

Thanks again, George

Thumbs down No Way!

We cannot do a "JVC" only version. The confusion in our clients would destroy our customer support!

We are all bound to the CDG spec from Sony/Phillips. If JVC has violated that spec, there is nothing we can reasonablly do to fix that. a CDG disc MUST be able to play on any CDG player. It cannot be designed to only run only on one.

Nikkodo created CDG players with slightly different CDG timing so their CDG discs wouldn't play on other players! Dumb move that aided in their downfall. The market will not tolerate that type of proprietary move. Now, we are left with having to explain why Nikkodo discs have problems with Microstudio's player code.

I am watching this thread unfold. I wish I could add to it, but it is beyond our knowledge scope. I do encourage you to continue. It is valuable info for the Karaoke market to see. Thanks for posting it here!

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't mean a JVC only version.
I was thinking along the lines that MTU might contact JVC and find out what their protocols(or whatever you guys call them) were for their machine and see if HKP is compatible, and if not could it be tweaked to make it so? It would help tremendously if this could at least be found out by someone who knows what to look for, and either isolate JVC as the problem, or eliminate it. Obviously we're flying blind out here. My situation is such that KHP is useless.I thought perhaps that is was a combination of factors: Vogone or keyrite in combination with KHP so I processed a song without anything else done to it, just KHP and the problem is still there.Hope this clarifies what I was eluding to.

Thanks, George

Danny-G the polarity bit kept bugging me so I moved everything out from the wall, unplugged the decoder from a multiple outlet strip and plugged it in directly to the wall outlet and guess what??? Back in business. Then I shut down for awhile. When I came back, there was the problem again, just as it had been. This time I let the cd run through the first song and unbelievably the second song came on just as it should be, colors and all. I shut everything down again and the scenario repeated itself, exactly;all messed up through the first song and aok afterwards. This time I shut down everything except the decoder, waited a few minutes, turned it all back on and everything worked fine. So it looks like one has to suffer through the first song, then all's all right, or leave the decoder on. Really wierd stuff. Thanks again,

George

Admin, I own a newer JVC single tray player and have not had any problem with KHP. It may be the old players with the superimpose were designed that way. But as far as I can see I've only had problems with Vogone I files and they only affected the volume level and had popping on certain songs (not all but a majority, so much so i have stopped using VG I and am waiting untill I get the money to buy VG 2 which will probably be September.).

George! -

Hey man, I'm sorry you've got problems with this, however, I am very happy you do. So I'm not the only one in the karaoke world with this mysterious problem. I too have searched the trouble shooting system and still am questioning. I also, am hoping that the KHP 2.0 will be a fix to many of this.

Later,
Corbin

Question Startup failure condition or ground loop

George, per your post on July 27 (bottom of the prior page), what you are describing may be related to two possible conditions:

1. Ground loop and power problem - If you notice any change when you move the power plug, this could indicate a wiring problem in your house, or with your multiple outlet box (I assume a noise/spike removal box). In wiring a recording studio, you want to have all your devices plugged into the same outlet, or the same multiple outlet box (not with separate filters on groups of 2 or 3 outlets). Then, your grounding and voltage drop between devices is minimized. If you see a change by plugging your decoder into a wall outlet instead of the multi-outlet box, or a wall outlet on the other side of the room, this indicates your decoder may have a ground noise sensitivity in the electronic circuits.

2. Failure to Reset at Startup - If the problem goes away on the second song, there is a circuit that is not being fully reset or cleared to its normal operating state when powered up. One question I have is if you powre up and wait 60 seconds or more, do you see any change versus trying to play the first song in 10 seconds or so? This type of problem basically indicates a faulty unit from the factory. If this is the condition, I would consider calling or emailing the factory for an RMA to return it for repair/replacement. Find out your warranty period first, and get it in writing if there will be any charge for the repair work.

Well guys, as I said earlier I was seeing a common thread looming on the horizon, namely JVC incompatability, and it's been bugging me. There seemed only one way to find out. It was getting full anyway and the day was looming on the horizon when I'd need(want) a player with larger capacity. Today I got a Sony and all my color problems vanished. Been messing with it all afternoon, and not a glitch. What got my attention was the fact that it will also play CDRW (which is going to get me out of the coaster manufacturing business) 400 cd capacity, and a price tag of $300. Not in the CD player business, but if anyone's interested it's the Sony CDP-CX400. There's not a word anywhere in the sales literature regarding CDRW read capability but it does it. I was lucky to get a salesman that knew it would, as that was one of my requirements. What was more important to me, all the color problems with KHP dissapeared...Yahoo!

Thanks all,

George

my JVC single drawer works fine. George If you are using your karaoke stuff out be very carefull with using a cd changer as they tend to end up jammed while being jossled around and if they do your investment in discs are lost untill a repairman can free them up for you. and it's easy to lose track of what's playing next and even harder to keep a fair rotation. Luckily I out grew my 200 cd changer before I had any problems with the discs being jossled. But I know a couple of KJ's who lost a weeks worth of work because their entire library was jammed inside their changers.

Danny,Thanks for the tip. I don't carry it out at all. I belong to a small Karaoke club and we take turns at going to each others homes for some singing and R&R. The first thing I did when I got my burner and Microstudio was make a back up of all my Karaoke cd's. Those I take with me when I go to their homes and play on their equipment, which we all have in one form or another. My master discs never leave the house. I don't believe the JVC bit is a universal thing. Perhaps the particular model I had, and maybe in a combination with some of the excellent points Doug pointed out, and KHP. I cannot rule out incompatability between the JVC and KHP since the KHP produced cd's played just fine on my old all in one Ventura. I'd been using the same combination of component equipment for over two years, and had never a minute's difficulty until I introduced KHP into the equation. I still think that KHP is the best thing since chocolate ice cream, and wouldn't trade it for anything. I just got caught up in a situation. Anyway, the Sony appears to have solved the problem, at least for the moment.
Thanks again,
George
