The ATI card is what we ship with our workstations. S3 video chip based cards have always given us problems, no matter what program we write or how we code it.
One of our beta testers has reported this "slow" problem condition:
Don White:
"When I run in 16bit or 32bit colour I have no problems in synchronizing the lyrics with the music. However, when I run in 24bit colour, the sweep cannot keep pace with the music.
I've tried different font sizes, numbers of lines, screen resolutions, etc. but the result is always the same - 16bit and 32 bit colours work fine, 24bit colour runs slow."
Try changing your color resolution before purchasing a new video card. You can change this by clicking the: Start button > Settings > Control Panel > Display, and click the Settings Tab. You will see the Resolution control list box. Make sure it is not set to 24-bit color.
