Cannot access already created cdg's in order to write them.
Dear Admin, thank you for your reply, but I haven't been able to resolve my problem. Your suggestion re: restarting my pc didn't work, and using the keyword "CUE" for forum answers didn't provide a resolution. My primary problem is that I cannot access the many karaoke cdg's that I exported to my D drive when using the Custom Assembly in Microstudio. In the past, when the program worked efficiently and properly, I would click "Hard Drive" and then click the "Look In" window, and the drop-down would offer the D drive, which contained all my karaoke tracks that I created. Now, the "Look in" window doesn't offer the D drive; instead, it offers only the "Audio Cd (D)", which not only can't be written but also the selected songs don't appear on the songlist to be written. How do I retrieve the D drive? Why did it suddenly disappear? Perhaps this might shed some light: the last time I created a bunch of cdg's, I remember now that when I saved them, first using "Save As" in the Local C Disc- then exporting them, the window now offered the Audio Cd instead of the "regular" D drive. Consequently, when I go to my D drive(which I did whenever I wanted to view the many, many songs I created), I would click START on my desktop, then click MY COMPUTER. Now, instead of showing, under "Devices with Removable Storage," the "regular" D drive(as well as the E drive), it shows instead the Audio CD (D

Frank,
Open MY Computer. What does it say under "Hard Disk Drives ?" What does it say under "Devices With Removal Storage?" Also, what operating system are you using? It's very confusing as to what's happening. The following quote from your first post seems to say you have put your cdg files both on C: and D:, and yet error messages you get seem to indicate that d: is a disk drive. Quote:
Hoping myself and others can help you sort through this dilemna. George P.S. I know the forums can be a bit confusing at first, but try to keep everything together. To answer, you need not start a new "thread". Just click Post Reply at the bottom of the screen, and posts stay together. That makes it easier for others that may have some ideas to follow what's happening. You'll get the hang of it. Last edited by George; February 28th, 2004 at 12:04 PM. |

Hi- Thanks for your reply(and patience)- First, I did, albeit temporarily, resolve my problem by sending the selected karaoke tracks from the Audio CD "device"(I mistakingly called it a drive- I'm not that computer literate) to My Documents and successfully wrote the tracks onto a blank cd. - To answer your two questions- a. Under Hard Disk Drives, it says "Local Disk(C)" - b. Under Devices with Removable Storage, it says, ONLY "Audio CD(D)- curiously, it no longer includes "Drive E"- you may remember that I had said that it used to say, D drive(not sure of the exact wording, but it was that drive(?) that contains all the karaoke songs I created from Karaoke Pro(not Microstudio, again my mistake as you mentioned)- and that's the "device" that has disappeared and, more important, was the one from which I could write the created karaoke tracks. Do you have any idea as to why the devices change under "Devices with Removable Storage"? - You also asked about my operating system; I'm not sure what that means, but I think you might mean the type of computer I'm using- it's Windows XP(laptop). - In closing, though I've temporarily resolved my major problem, I would like to be able to access the D drive/device. - Thanks again for all your help. - Frank - P.S. You also asked about my saving the karaoke tracks in Local Disk C as well as the mysterious D drive. If I remember correctly, when I learned how to create the karaoke trackss by reading the manual, it suggested that they be saved in two separate areas. Having just referred to the manual to double check what I thought I learned, I don't see it; however, I noticed that it says that I should have used the "Save Command" to protect all the projects should a crash occur- guess I'd better do that. Where do you suggest I export the cdg's?

Frank,
Your system is reporting one hard drive(C: and one disk drive(D ![]() If you had two hard drives C: and D: and the disk drive was E:, something has corrupted the system. Since you have a Windows XP operating system, you could try doing a system restore. This could put your settings back as they were when everything was working unless a restore just can't handle whatever changed. To do a system restore, open MY COMPUTER. Click HELP at the top of the screen. Click HELP AND SUPPORT CENTER at the top of the screen. Click PICK A TASK. Click UNDO CHANGES WITH SYSTEM RESTORE. Make sure the RESTORE MY COMPUTER TO AN EARLIER TIME button is selected and click NEXT. You can click on any day in Feb. you want, or by clicking the left arrow at the top of the calendar you can go to Jan. Pick a date you know things were working properly and click on it. Then click NEXT on the bottom of the screen. On the screen that pops up click NEXT to start the system restore. A word of CAUTION. Any new programs installed, or any changes made to the system since the restore date you choose will be lost, and have to be re-installed, or re-done, so try to pick the nearest date to this time that you remember things working as they should. I didn't know if you knew you could restore or not and went through it to save you some time in case you weren't familiar with it. take care, George |

![]() I hope you're not having the same problem I just had. My 3 months old Maxtor 160 gig with all my music was no longer showing in my "My Computer". The reason you now have the D for your cd player is that Windows can not communicate with your hard drive.
I suggest you run a test if you have an utility software that came with your computer or hard drive or if you have Norton System Works try running disk Doctor and see what it says. Good Luck |

Mlepine- I thank you for the time you took to help me with my Karaoke Pro software. Mysteriously, under "Devices with Removable Storage," my "DVD/CD-RW Drive (D)" returned(which is where all my karaoke songs were stored) and now I can continue to write tracks from that source, which now, albeit temporarily, resolves my problem. You're probably right that Windows cannot properly communicate with the Karaoke Pro software. Now, the "Audio CD drive" is no longer there, nor the "E drive".

Hello Frankaraoke,
Just a thought, as I had a similar problem in the past. If you have connected your IDE cable to the two drives make sure they are in the right order, one is master and the other is slave, anything else and one or both drives are not recogonized. This can also happen if the cable is not fitted tightly i.e. not making contact with either of the hard drives properly. I find it easiest to set my hard drives to cable select which in XP will inform you if anything is wrong on setup. Losing a drive is usually something simple, unless your drive itself is defective. Regards from across the pond Garry |
