Mlepine,
I should have a laptop coming in either on Friday or early next week that will have XP Home on it. This shouldn't cause the problem, but this OS is not one that I had that I tested on. I just tested XP Pro on 2 systems and Windows 2000 PRO on the other system. These are the only OS's that I normally always have in front of me. I will double check on XP home once we get that system in. The Video card, possibly could give it some grief, but I am not sure. I think we have a system here that has Windows 2000 PRO on it with a Radeon 7000 installed. I will try it on that system and see what it does also.

Mlepine,
I just tested this on the Computer that is a Pentium III 866 MHZ System, 256 mb SDRAM, Radeon 7200 64mb, Sound Blaster Audigy, Windows 2000 Pro and it worked fine on this system. I played 3 songs back to back and it was clean all the way through. This system has all of the Windows updates and most of the drivers updates.

could you try running it in windows 2000 compatibility mode, and see if it changes anything. I find hoster works better on my machine in this mode.

![]() Bryan,
I found out that all the video card I tried Hoster demo with does not support directx 9.0b, could that be the problem? The support for directx 9.0b starts at series 8500. The problem is to find an ATI Card, it's back order every where! Would you know if an ATI 9200 128megs Series is better than the ATI 9200 Pro 64 megs? Did you ever tried Hoster 2.0 on an older ATI Card like 7000 Series? Thanks |

I use the msi geforce 4 440 64mg card........ about $59.00 and it has second screen video out. a lot cheaper than the ati. I tried a 128 meg ati and took it back to keep the msi, it was a much sharper display.

![]() I just installed a new ATI 9200 128megs with directX 9.0 support and no change!
Here's what I did; I bought a new Hard Drive Western Digital 40G with 8 megs (New Model) and install it in my ECS K7S5A computer which has a AMD Athlon XP 1700+. I figure this computer is more powerfull than my Dell with the PIII. Only one last option: I will record another session with my Wave recorder, compress it & send it again to Bryan, if he hears nothing or says it sounds ok I'll have my answer. I now have a computer that has a Windows XP Home freshly installed with all updates, faster Hard Drive, reduced the acceleration, new video card that supports directx 9.0... regards |

Could you be MORE specific as to the audio "problem" you are having? It might help us to look in a different direction.
For example: If you said, "When ever open or close a window, I get audio dropped." I would say to check if all the extra BELLS and WHISTLES you have running are necessary. Like the pretty picture on the Windows Desktop, the rounded corners on the windows, the contents carried as you drag them. If you said, "I get popping and clicking, even sometimes when nothing is playing." I would suggest that you go to your audio properties window and make sure that things like the CD Player, Line In, TAD Line In and other lines that you DON'T or wouldn't use during a karaoke show are MUTED. (THIS IS ONE THAT SHOWS UP A LOT) So, please for my assistance, could you provide me more information on the sound problem. Thanks |

![]() pcgumshoe,
If you wish I can send you the same sample I sent Bryan? What I did was to record a 90 sec. session with my Creative Wave recorder, normalyse it and than compressed it to mp3 128k. The problem is not the import but the play back only. If you send me a private email I'll be glad to use your assistance. Regards |

I don't have a problem with that, but, what if I can't hear it either? It may be localized to your P.C.
My email is my name here plus at hotmail dot com. It may be easier if you had a cassette recorder and you recorded it from the speakers THEN imported it into your PC and compressed it and sent it. |

![]() I got a better result...
I had to use the audio card that came with my Mother Board (C-Media). It never has any sound drop out but it will still have some strange sound coming in after playing it the first time, it's like listening to a vinyl that has some scrathes! No way to get it running properly with a Creative product. By the way; Just try it on another brand new computer I just build: Asus A7N8X-X, Athlon 2600+, 256M (400) DDR Memory, Western Digital 40g 8meg Cache, Audigy & ATI 9200 Series 128meg with directx 9.0 support. All Windows, Drivers updated INCLUDED DirectX 9.0 & reduced Acceleration. SAME RESULTS!! My conclusion? Doesn't run properly with XP Home or it's the way it plays. |

Okay,
Please download this BMP file, it is the image of the play control center from my Sound Blaster Live. I have circled many of the mute buttons.
Please open your play control and make it the same as mine, then see if you have the audio problem. You may not see ALL the items that I have, you will need to click on the options and then properties and select everything in order to see ALL your audio channels. Then start muting things like I have them. You shouldn't need all this extra stuff active, let me know what you use of these things during a show. |

PcGumshoe,
Make sure that you turn the Hardware accelration on for the Video and the Sound and then see if that makes any changes. If you don't have to turn it down then I wouldn't. Can you attach your DXDIAG to this post also, as described in this thread: http://forum.mtu.com/showthread.php?threadid=322

PcGumshoe,
What version of Windows have you tried it on? He has XP Home on all of his systems. I have tested under 2000 Pro and XP Pro and can't reproduce it. I have not yet had a system in that had XP Home on it. i should have one later this week, that I can test it on to see if it is the OS.
