With Microstudio V2.303, we did some tests on our Installation Guidelines (VCache, etc.). We used a Pentium 166MHz, 64MB RAM (REQUIRED!), a 7200rpm IDE hard drive with DMA enabled in the Control Panel/System icon, Windows ME, a 16x Plextor MTU Certified CD Burner, and all our guidelines removed... except Auto Insert Notify. We were able to burn at 16x with no problems; 8 discs in a row.

For Windows 2000 Professional, you don't need to even disable Auto Insert Notify as it is a "real" multi-tasking operating system, unlike the 95-98-ME versions. Our new Installation program for Microeditor now detects what Windows version is on the computer. For 95-98-ME, the Installation guidelines call for 64MB of RAM in your computer, and only disable Auto Insert Notify. No Installation guidelines appear when the OS is Windows 2000 or NT.

Remove all the changes you made to Windows 2000. That should help return your performance. Be careful. You are deep in the guts of Windows 2000, and it was not designed for anyone to go in that far. I do applaud your hard work to make these changes, and regret to tell you to undo them.
