micro 2.4 can't find cd drivers

I am running windows XP Home, I have microstudio version 2.4 according to help, but my invoice says Karaoke Pro 4.008 bought 3/11/2003.

Now the problem my IE 6 went bad and I called microsoft tech support for help, after six hours on the phone with MS I now have a working IE 6 sp1. They had me create a new user on my coumputer and I had to transfer my files over to the new account. Now everything works except Microstudio. I can't open the icon on the new account and in the old account it opens except it does not reconize any of my cd drives, I have two. I went to add and remove to remove it and try to reinstall from my backup cd. It could not be removed that way. I tried the cd to install on my new user account and there is no .exe file so it doesn't work. I have proabably burned over 1000 cd's with the program and I love it. My wife does KJ shows Plus shes sings on tv and verity shows, my son is a producer and I help him with the burning of cd's for his clients.
Please help. MS knows it worked before we restored IE but that don't know how to make Microstudio work being it is not one of their products.
Thanks for the help
Steve

Are you logged in as Administrator?

If you created a new account, you may not have given yourself ADMIN rights. If that is the case, you will have to log back in as the old account and change the rights of this new account so that it too is an administrator.

Click on Start, Control Panel. In Control Panel, select USERS. You will see in this folder your user name, assume it is STEVE2. Underneath it should say if it is ADMINISTRATOR or LIMITED ACCOUNT.

If you are limited, report back and I will try and walk you through changing that.

Lightbulb Re-Install again

shanold1,

I suggest you remove and re-install Microstudio, it should solve your problem.

I installed Microstudio on a fresh new installation of Windows XP before doing all the Windows Update, WRONG THING TO DO, it was not opening after all my updates!

I guess some of the updates affected Microstudio. We should always do all our updates before installing our software on a fresh new installation, I new this but I was to anxious to use it!!

Regards

The reason this is happening is that you have changed Users. In Microstudio 2.400 the security was set to use one certain registry key, where it stored the information. This was only able to be used by the User that the program was installed under. We have now fixed this, in Microstudio 2.50x. Which should be released early next week sometime.

You should try to uninstall the program, and then reboot the system, then reinstall under your new User Name and it should then work without any problems.

Question!

So, if the user wasn't logged in as ADMIN, would MTU prevent him from uninstalling microstudio? Perhaps giving him the problems he has?

I was barking up the ADMIN thing because I realize he installed it as admin and would probably have to uninstall it the same. I know that sometimes if the UNINSTALL master file gets corrupted, that you might not be able to uninstall some things that show up in the Add/Remove programs window.

Just sleuthing around. Next week on Microstudio 2.5 eh? Great, how about KPro 5!?!?!

Unhappy

I am puzzled do I go to my first account I installed microstudio in and try to delete it then go to my new account and try to install from the cd I made which when I tried to install it it doesn't seem to work. I have all my e-mail with the long serial #. I was wondering being I am not real smart on computers if it would be esier to pay $15 for another download or is that not possiable?

I will say this, if you have already deleted Microstudio from your Harddrive, then you should be able to just install it. Also, if you rarely used your download link, you should be able to just click on it again and download Microstudio. I would recommend that you wait until this so called release of 2.5 I don't know that you will get the upgrade for free, but if so, then just wait until next week.

As far as being logged in as administrator. I don't know about MTU specifically, but some programs do require that you be logged in as administrator in order to remove them.

Try and log in as the first user and delete it. Then log in as STEVE2 (for lack of knowing) and install it. You should be fine.

Shanold1,

Don't mean to confuse you more, but I don't believe I'd wait for
the next version to get this problem resolved.

According to the news page, version 25xx is going to have a new installation procedure. If by some unlucky happenstance that should cause you a snag, and this problem were still unresolved, it would seem a compound problem would be the result.I'm not infering that is going to happen for sure, but computers are computers

Just an opinion, but I'd rather deal with one problem at a time, if it were me.

Take care,

George
