Back up hard drive

I have all my files on a external hard drive. I purchased another hard drive and copied all files to it hopefully to use for a backup in case of hard drive fails. When I connect new hard drive hoster does not recognize .

Does it show it as a different volume letter to the original?

Example if the old drive shows as (E) then you have to assign(E) to the new drive for Hoster to recognize them.
Of course you cant have them both connected at the same time using the same volume letter.
If you don\\\'t know how to change that then state your version of Windows and Ill try to show you.

Funny that with the \" backslash showing, never seen that before must be something to do with a Windows update 0

The one I use shows E dive. The one I did for backup is F. I don\'t know how to correct that . I am using Windows 10

Right click the windows icon bottom left of screen, select computer management. in the right hand pane of that dialog select storage. (Of course only have the drive your trying to change connected) then next window click on Disk management, right click on the drive you want to change.
You should see a dialog as shown in attachment.
Click the highlighted the next dialog allows you to set it, you should be able to fathom that yourself.
See how you get on with that.
