Music skips and sometimes Hoster crashes

I have not had a crash problem in a very long time.

A person who works for me said he had Hoster crash 3 times right after the music skipped Saturday and the music skipped a lot without crashing.

I have been testing this computer for a couple hours now. I do get music skips but so far it has not crashed.

I have a new Dell Computer with Windows 8 and Hoster 5.08. It has touch screen technology (if that makes a difference). I am laboring to figure how to do most things on this computer. So if there are changes that need to be made, I may need instruction on how to do them. There are number of operations that are very easy on XP and even Windows 7 that I still don't how to do on Windows 8.

It may be helpful if I were a tech type of person but I'm stumped and don't know what to do next.

Thank you ahead of time for any help that I can get.

What model Dell, where do you get your sound from, and is the video specified as "optimus"?

My output jack doesnt allow me to use hoster at all, so I use the audio from an hdmi converter.

USB ports only use a wireless mouse. Do want to add an external hard drive at some point

I select stereo external speakers but that probably won't make any difference in your case, but you can try. I had a terrible time using the onboard sound card . I was always getting audio dropouts, and got crashes when I used a usb mixer.
Dell laptops seem to carry a much higher latencythan other computers, that has been a known issue from Dell.

I have a windows 8 laptop with touch screen. I don't know if they all work the same but when mine starts and opens with all the tiles showing there is one tile named "Desktop" pressing that once does away with all the tiles and leaves you with a desktop much like windows 7.
once you get into this view alternate clicks on the windows key alternates between tiled view and none tiled view.
If you place the cursor in the bottom left of the screen a miniature windows eight screen appears if you right click in that area a pop up window appears with a number of selections like file explorer & Control panel, using these dialogs is much the same as windows 7 for finding your way around the settings.

With your audio problem first I would suggest you set your power options to high performance, later versions of Hoster set this automatically but I think that was after 5.08.
You should be able to do that by right clicking the battery icon on the task bar and choose power options then select change plan settings then change them all to never at least while it's plugged in.
Then you might want to check the advanced settings where there are individual settings for hard disc and usb varius settings make sure none are set to sleep after a short time.

Then the main setting in Hoster is from the tools/audio controls, the prevent audio drops setting. It is normally defaulted to 10 if you still hear audio drops raise that to a higher # 20 is the highest perhaps start there and if it improves gradually lower it till you find the best setting.

Also check from the manufacturers web site if there are any updated drivers for your model especially audio and video drivers.

The only thing that works for me is an Hdmi converter; I use that for converting hdmi to rca to the monitors I use for the singers and audience, and it has an audio send also. The audio comes out of that converter into my mixer. That may work for you.

Re: Music skips and sometimes Hoster crashes

Thanks Bryant, HDMI is the only video output I have on this computer no VGA or S-Video and I will need to use that for video unless there is a converter that does both, most of my monitors (TV's) use component wire so the video output would need to be component and composite.

Thanks Roy, I will try to do those things that you suggested, I will not be able to get to it until after the weekend. I will post back here to let you know how things went.

Great, and I think the whole issue may be a Dell thing, but not sure. I did weeks of research on why mine just wouldn't work with its onboard sound card, every forum, every driver available, latency issues, etc. and several computer fixer guys up here, you name it. All I know is that the Hdmi audio originally suggested from Roy D. works. Hopefully yours will too.

Re: Music skips and sometimes Hoster crashes

I've been looking for a converter that works for my purposes. I need the video output to include composite (yellow video) and component (green, blue and red) and now to include audio R/L, I Can't find such a monster. With the old XP and Windows 7 computers I used a K-World converter that hooked to VGA on PC and had the above outputs.

Before the audio issue I tried a HDMI to VGA chord that did not work. I just purchased a converter box HDMI in and VGA out and R/L audio out. The audio is wonderful no skips, but for some reason the VGA does not work like the VGA on all my PC's. In the next week I am going to find out if the venues I use component on if I can use composite a go the route that Bryant suggested.

Anyone have an idea what I should do, and Bryant what part are you using and where could I get one.

Re: Music skips and sometimes Hoster crashes

I use one of these, I don't now if it's the same as Bryant uses so might be better to see if he answers as he has similar computer to you.

This is a UK site but am sure you could find the same thing nearer to you.

Re: Music skips and sometimes Hoster crashes

I'm back again.
I mentioned before that I purchased the HDMI Mini that was suggested and that works great if all my monitors are rca (composite). Every one of my venues requires the rca and either component (red, blue & green) or HDMI (Most new TV's no longer have the composite (yellow rca). I can split the HDMI and get HDMI video from one side and R L audio from the mini on the other, but the component yellow part from the mini will not give video in that situation. Or I can just use the mini and get music and video (just rca yellow component) but in either case I can not get video for all my monitors with The Dell Windows 8 computer that I talked about originally and now I have a new Lenovo Windows 8 that also will not work, The Lenovo also has VGA which works fine for video but I can't get audio through the HDMI because you can't run both at the same time. I also tried an external sound card for audio and although the sound card sounds great on all my Windows 7 units it is terrible on the Window 8.
I have found but not purchased other units like the mini where you get R L audio and component (red, blue, green). But ideally I need something that can do both. If there is some suggestion anyone has that I can try so I can put the Windows 8 laptops into operation I am all ears.

I'm sorry if this was too busy to read
Thanks, Stu

Re: Music skips and sometimes Hoster crashes

I have yet to find a new tv that doesn't have composit video socket but I suppose I've been lucky.
I have no idea whether or not this thing would solve your problem but is an HDMI splitter.:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet%C2%AE-S.../dp/B001D9P1OW
I was thinking plug one mini hdmi to rca into one of the outlets and into the other outlet plug a mini with component out or just use the other hdmi out direct.
I have no prior knowledge exsperiece with the above product it's just an idea.
