I edited my original Post:

4. If you have a "Cable Select" Ribbon, then the Jumper Connections on the Back of the CD-RW's are both set to "CSEL" Cable Select. To use "CSEL" your computer's bios MUST support CSEL.

5. I believe that "auto detect" implies you have jumpers set on CSEL and a 39 Pin CSEL Ribbon Cable.

SUGGEST YOU GO INTO YOUR BIOS AND UNSELECT AUTO DETECT AND SIMPLY ASSIGN A MASTER AND SLAVE ON WHATEVER RIBBON CABLE (THE PRIMARY OR SECONDARY) YOU HAVE THE CD-RW'S CONNECTED TO.
