Audio Whine from Laptop to PA

Using a older laptop to run my Hoster. Have a 3.5mm jack cable from laptop to red/white cable, which plugs into PA jack adapters, then into PA. As long as music is playing, don't hear the whine or buzz, but when idle, the noise is very distracting. Anybody else suffer from this and if so, how the heck can it be eliminated? Is there some kind of inline filter I can purchase? Appreciate incites.

I had the same problem with my old Vista laptop. I was advised to get a "ground loop isolator", which worked for several months. Then the noise got loud again even while using it. After trying everything, I finally discovered that I needed a new electrical cord for my laptop. I purchased it & the noise went away.

Re: Audio Whine from Laptop to PA

I tried what Beavis suggested by using a 3 to 2 plug adapter, thus eleimnating the ground stud and guess what...it totally worked. Can't thank you enough Beavis.
