Thumbs up Audio Dropouts prevented in Version 5.06

Beta Test is Gone, 5.06 is Released!

Hoster 5.06 Beta 14 was available until March 15, 2012 so you could test for audio dropouts.

BEFORE INSTALLING:
  1. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, copy C:\MTU\Hoster\HosterInfo.ini and name it HosterInfo505.ini. If you need to restore back to a prior version rename it back to HosterInfo.ini.

March 15, 2012 - Hoster 5.06 is released!

We created 2 versions:

1. Hoster Full 506.09: - Hoster Lite 506.09: - Sept 19, 2011 for Import Database and Upgrade Install Date.

2. Hoster Full 506.03: - Hoster Lite 506.03: - March 15, 2012 for Import Database and Upgrade Install Date.

MTU and our fabulous Beta Testing Team have diagnosed everything possible to discover what contributed to audio dropouts.

* One of the MAIN causes is Laptops are shipped with Power Management set to "Max Battery Life", instead of "Max Application Performance", which does these nasties:

1. Slows your CPU Speed!

2. Slows your Hard Drive rotation!

3. turns OFF your Optical Drive (DVD/CDR), requiring ~10 seconds to spin up before usable!

* We added a "Prevent Audio Dropouts" list box in the Tools menu "Audio Controls" Command dialog. It can adjust from 0 to 20, defaulted to "10". Read the manual on this control and why/how to decide to adjust it.

* The "Singers" button to maintain your Singers Database (now the Tools menu "Edit Singers Database...") allowed you to click Refresh or Export buttons WHILE a song plays. These should not be used while playing, and are now grayed out until play stops.

Another major "protection" we added for you.... 5.06 makes a backup of your Singers Database from prior versions (i.e. 3.221a, 4.000, 4032, 5.00 etc.) BEFORE converting to the new indexed Database so you can re-install your prior version and still use your old Singers Database. Changes are NOT made to this file, thus you want to decide reasonably soon to downgrade or stay with 5.06.

Enjoy...

test

I have found what I think to be an anomaly in 5.06 (Beta). When I call up a singer using the 'Search + Singers' tab, on some of the singers, their list comes up but immediately disappears and on others, it doesn't. Am I doing something wrong?

I haven't noticed any problem like you describe.
As it's different to the previous you may want to give a bit longer to make sure you understand it.

Re: Hoster 5.06 Pre Release for Audio Drop testing

And as always. Set a restore point before installing incase there is a problem. Always a good idea

Re: test

Out of 5 pages of posts in the "Studdering" thread, I thought at least 20 users would be there... only 4!

The other posts were our incredibly helpful Roy and Dale trying to solve the problems.

Well be honest it took me three months to figure out my problem. I have no glitches and everything is fine now. I'm afraid to test it. I'm one stress free happy camper right now...You did note my conflict was with the Cyberlink software.

Jon as long as you make the back up copies and restore point as suggested, testing this will not effect your original settings or going back to your original version.

Re: test

I notice the search and singers buttons are now one of the same. When I click this button a window pops up as expected but I am unable to call up any singers songs. Is this because it is a beta version or am I doing something wrong?

Re: test

As you enter a letter in the singers name of the search dialog it should cause a window to drop down showing a list of your singers, click one of those and the singers window should populate with their songs.
Alternately press the drop down arrow of the search singers name box, if you don't see any singers then something is wrong.

Double click on a song, and it is added to the playlist... just missing the ADD button, but double clicking will perform the function.

The singers names are there but the songs don't populate.

Rikki, I know how to add a song including to the singers data base. I'm saying the singers names are there but there are no songs listed when you click there names.

Re: test

If I click on the "tools menu" and then click on the "singers database" then a window opens with the singers and their songs. The singers songs don't appear if I use the "search and singers button".

On another disturbing note, before I installed this beta version, I created a restore point. I received the message that the restore point had been created sucessfully. This morning I discovered that there are no restore points listed on my computer. I am pretty sure that this has nothing to do with Hoster. I don't know what happened. Another computer quirk I guess.

Re: test

I notice when the "remove silence" button is on, when most songs start playing there is what I would call a momentary skip. If you turn the "remove silence off" and let the songs start normally the skip isn't there. The setting for the "prevent audio dropouts" is set at 20. If I change the setting lower the problem becomes worse.

Re: test

If you can see all the singers songs from the Tools/Singers database then I'm flummoxed at why you can't see them when using the Search+Singers button.
There are a few quirky bits in that test version, they were really trying to find out if those users that were having audio drop outs found an improvment with that side of things.
Most of the quirky bits have been sorted with the latest beta that I tested today. I think you could exspect to see the finished job in a couple of weeks.

Regarding your restore point. Did you ever have a program named Registry Mechanic on your computer as I had that installed on one of my computers and found I could not use restore point anymore even after removing it.

I am running a program called Advanced System Care 5. Maybe that is the culprit. I'll do some investigating. Thanks.

Walt are you clicking on the folder button next to the Singer's Name after you select their name? If not then their list will not pop up.

Dale, the new test version doesn't have the folder, both windows open on pressing the Search + Singers button that is all one now.

Thanks for the help Dale. Roy is right, the beta version I am testing doesn't have the folder next to the singers name.

Re: test

Walt,

Did you ever to get the singer's song list to propagate from the Search + Singers Button?

If Not, maybe it is being covered by the search window... try making it smaller, or moving it to the opposite side of the screen, to uncover the singers song list that may have been hiding under it...
