Microsoft access
both questions pertain to MS access:
is there a way in MS Access to change the case on all the song names at one time? is there a way to delete a blank space before the song name begins (by this i mean some songs the spacebar was hit before typing the first letter) i want to delete all the blank spaces with one click.

why wouldnt it change in the songbook if i edit through access ? its still the database. im not so worried about the change case because i can edit that in word.

Re: Microsoft access
Not recommended but,
You can remove leading spaces in Access by selecting the column then use find and replace. From the Match selection drop down box select Start of field, in the find enter a blank space, in the replace leave blank then hit replace all. If you try this bear in mind that if you ever rebuild the songbook all the changes will be lost. ![]() However as Skybird stated, it is best to do all your editing in Hoster Edit dialog, if you click on a column header all the leading spaces will appear at the top for you to manually edit them one at a time but the change will be permanent. You can change the case easy for your songbook in Microsoft Word processor. It depends on your version of word but in my Word 2000 that I still use, from the format menu is an option for change case, I always select "Sentence case" this will change the whole book in a matter of minutes.

Re: Microsoft access
As I stated above, if you ever rebuild Hosters database all your changes would be lost because Hoster builds its database from the headers in the song files.

Re: Microsoft access
I hate to ask this, however, how does one get into Access?

Re: Microsoft access
It is one of the Microsoft Office programs, you either have to purchase Microsoft Office Professional or purchase it as a separate item.
Once installed on your computer you start it like any other program in your Start/programs list, if it is on your computer you can open your songs.mdb by right clicking it and selecting "Open With" and it will appear in the list. I'd say, if you haven't already got it, stay away from it, you can cause more problems to Hoster using it. If you have Microsoft office Excel version 2007 or above you can open the songs.mdb in that to view it, sort data and print lists.

Re: Microsoft access
Bevis - using find and replace in Access is going to be trick as all words have a space between them. I don't think that is going to be an easy task to do either with Access or in the Edit through Hoster. You will need to pay very close attention and approve or skip each one.
Bryant - as Roy has stated Access is a Microsoft Office program. If you don't know what you are doing in it, I also recommend not trying to use it. To all - the only use you should really make of Access is for viewing your database files, and only by making a copy of the file and view that rather than the original file created by Hoster. The files created by Hoster are done in a very old version of Access engine. If you open it in a newer version of Access the file can get updated and therefore corrupted where Hoster will not work with it correctly.

Was just curious, as I hear about it a lot on here, and seems I don't have it anywhere. I was substitute teaching a computer class the other day and one of the kids mentioned it.
