Default Directory

Does anybody out there know how to set the 'Lyric' Directory in KHPro to one of my own choosing ?

Every time I open KHPro, the default lyric directory is always 'My Documents'. Since I keep my lyrics and wave files on a different partition and a different directory, it becomes a little tiresome and seemingly unnecessary to constantly have to navigate back to my own directory every time I open KHPro. I notice that the 'wave file' directory will always be the same as my 'lyric directory'-after I set it for that session-and that's OK.

I noticed that in Microstudio, when I change the songlist directory to one of my own choosing-it stays that way even after I close and re-open Microstudio. I would like KHPro to act the same way.

Any comments ?

Talking It does...

Al,

Copy the lyrics of any song you want in your favorite directory.

Now open Kpro.

When you click the “Import Lyrics” tab, it will take to “My Documents”

Navigate to where you copy your lyrics and open it.
Close Kpro without saving.

When you open Kpro again and you click on the “Import Lyrics” tab, it will take you to your choice directory.

It works!

Regards,

Jon

Still doesn't work !

Jon,

No way ! I did EXACTLY as you suggested. No matter what I do, every time I open KHPro, and hit the 'import lyrics' tab, I end up in 'My Documents' again.

Wonder why it works for you and not for me.

Al,

Don't know what to tell you. Before I answered your last post I tried it in both "Karaoke Home Producer version 3.100 and Karaoke Pro version 4.0 which are currently Beta testing. It worked fine for me.

I tried again with the same results before I answered yor last post.

Jon

Tried Again -still not working

Jon,

What are you doing up so late ? It was 1 am here when I answered your first post-3Am in NY.

It's now 2:30 am here and I tried again. Navigated to my drive and directory and opened my lyrics (and the wave file). Closed KHPro w/o saving anything (how do you save w/o a CDG file being created anyway ?) and then reopened KHPro-result-right back to 'My documents' !

Maybe Brian has an answer (please don't tell me to re-format again!).

Alan,

It's early. Remember the new day begins at 1 second after midnight. I work at home and I make my living with a computer. I do most of my work at night..no phone calls. It's nice a quiet, best time to think and create.

Relax...your new problem WILL NOT CALL for a reformat. Further Kpro 4.0 should be coming out very soon amd you will be able to save your lyrics and music in any directory you like, and, they will open there everytime.

Rest assured it will work.

Regards,

Jon

What Windows are you running?

Alan North, please tell us what Windows version you are running. As Jon points out, this is not a known bug in the software and it is not being reported by others as a problem... not to say it doesn't exist. We'd like to re-create this problem in KPro 4.0 if it exists so we can fix it before releasing it.

However, if we cannot re-create it, it is related to your computer, not KHP.

I think something is being overlooked here. Where the programs open depends on your habits. There is no "default" to open to, at least not on either of my computers XP or 98SE.

Both my KHP and the new Kpro always opens to whatever folder I LAST used.

Since I usually open lyrics first and music second, my KHP usually opens to songlist.
On rare occassions if I open music first and lyrics second, KHp will open to my documents the next time.
I don't see anything wrong with this. Whichever one it opens to you will have to navigate to the other anyway.

In Kpro, since I save Kpr files for future use after each session, Kpro always opens to the folder I set up for saving Kpro projects, not to either my songlist or my documents.

All this strikes me as perfectly normal.

I'd have to conclude that if one wants to have the program to open to a specific folder and minimize navigation, create that folder, save lyrics and music to that folder, and work out of that one folder.

I am using Win 98SE and I just REFORMATTED my C drive in order to get Microstudio 2.400 installed. I haven't had time to do anything to screw up the registry yet.

This has been a problem on my computer ever since I first ordered KHPro. While it is not critical, it is annoying to have to re-navigate every time I make a correction to my lyrics.

My understanding is that KHPro 4.0 will allow us to make corrections within KHPro and even save them-so as Jon says, it may be just a waiting game for me and the problem will be solved automatically.

I keep the lyrics and wave file for the same song in the same directory since this avoids extra navigation and seems to be a logical place to find them both.

Thanks for trying, guys.

Al
