Re: Report Hoster 5.01 Problems

I have been testing my implementation of Hoster 5.01 on a HP DV5 laptop with 3gb ram, Nvidia GeForce 9200M GS graphics, Win7 SP1 32 bit, external sound blaster usb sound card.

I only only just joined the forum and am hoping someone can give me some advice with my 2 remaining problems:

1. I am unable to listen to the audio track of a song that is selected in the search window. I have TWO sound cards; one assigned to the main play list and the other to search audio card. Both sound cards are working.

I click the search button on the main hoster play/control screen, this opens the search song database screen shown on page 10 of the manual (bottom half of page). I highlight the buttons title, artist, karaoke and type in a search string e.g. bon jovi. When I press enter or hit tab I get a list of matching songs that show up in the results list. So far all good. If I highlight ANY one song then click the preview play button to listen to the song via the second sound card I get the error 'cannot open zip file' in a popup window. If I click add to add the song to the main playlist I can return to the main control screen and play that same song with no problem. The song files are all CDG and MP3 file pairs zipped as .zip files. Note I do not used brand or book id's. These are system defaulted to unknown and XYZ... etc. Any ideas?

2. I am using the index HD files function to import my files into the database.

Importing of .zip files went fine and file count was correct. When I try to import video files it correctly finds the files in their recpective folders (include sub folders is checked) BUT they are listed in the import window twice. I am importing .vob and .mpg files. I generate only kmh files. The files are definitely NOT duplicated.

If I just go to each individual folder one at a time the import is fine. Seems to be related to checking the include sub folders option.

Any ideas on what this could be?

Only question I have is on the videos. When you have selected include sub-folders and they showed twice each in the import screen, did you check in the Search for videos and see if they were listed twice with two different BookIDs or are they listed just once? Reason I ask is to help MTU narrow down where to look.
I am thinking these may be over-looked bugs and if so then MTU should be able to duplicate and correct.
When you are trying to prevue a song in search, are you playing any songs in the playlist? Your system, being a laptop and with only 3GB memory, may not be able to handle both sound card outputs.

I did some more testing on this issue and have noticed that the duplication only appears in the import window when include sub folders is checked. Whole folders appear to be duplicated and even triplicated - very strange. When you do a batch import the message warns that you are about to import xxx songs into the database. The xxx number is an accurate reflection of the number of songs shown in the import window including all the duplicates listed.

But here is the thing. After I run the import I then do a database rebuild and the total count of tracks in the library is CORRECT. If I do a database seach on all video tracks I get the correct count and no KMH files are duplicated.

So the end result is that although it appears that duplicates are about to be imported they infact are not.

Hope this helps to identify and correct this issue. I think it may be related to the building of the list of songs for video type files in the import window when include sub folders is checked.

Great post ollertos. I congratulate you on your first report to us.

Due to Roy's duplicating your problem #1 with ZIP files, we should be able to find and fix that one easily. We are now working on KHPRO and Keyrite, then we'll get back on Hoster. We should have Hoster 5.02 out soon, which is simply a recompiling the Hoster code with a newer Microsoft Development Studio tool we use to compile; i.e. create the object code you run. By not doing any other changes, we can get this out very fast. If we add any changes, we must beta test to prove the changes work and didn't "break" anything else... takes weeks/months to do this depending on the changes we make. Your reported bugs will be studied and fixed (if a true bug) in 5.03.

Problem #2 may be an artifact of the Windows control we are using, and something we are not setting to prevent duplicates from appearing. Since they don't actually duplicate in the Songs Database, I suspect this is the case.

On Problem #2, I am assuming you are using the "Import HD Files" Screen, not the "Build Database" dilaog? Try the same with the "Build Database" screen. It is MUCH NEWER code and designed to very quickly index the selected file types (multiple allowed here, but not in "Index HD Files") and sub-folders if that button is clicked. Also, "Build Database" opens the headers on MP3 and WMA files and extracts the data if present, or adds the Filename into the Title field of the created KMH file.

Thank you for the quick response. Yes I am using Import HD files to create the kmh files and database. I will also try the build DB option as you suggest and report back to you.

I can confirm this problem is happening with zip files, it doesn't happen with any other type of files.

Re: Report Hoster 5.01 Problems

Thanks for the backup there Roy. I would have thought 3Gb RAM would be enough. Nothing else running. The songs I try to preview are NOT in the playlist at that time. I just double click or click the add button to make that happen then cue and play them without issue from the main play list.

So this begs the question, can any of the MTU guys duplicate this problem so we can get a fix for it. The reason I would like to have the preview working is that I have multiple versions of the same song in my library so when I am deciding which song I should add to the main play list it would be handy for me to preview the audio for each duplicate and then decide which one to go with.

I've aded this to our 5.02 spec to look at this week. We're tracking down a crashing bug in Auto mode when a song finishes playing, and fixing a few other reported gremlins.

Yesterday we found and fixed a bug that prevented ZIP files from preview playing in the Search dialog. It is in Hoster 5.02, which we expect to begin beta testing today.
