32 or 64 bit?
I need to get a new computer because of the Black Screen of Death. I have been looking at computers, and they are all 64 bit. Is Hoster still 32 bit?
Thanks, Ernie |

Re: 32 or 64 bit?
Hoster has never had a problem with 64 bit mainly because Hoster cannot burn CDs. This was a problem with Microstudio which has been fixed.

I've had probems in the past and was able to bail out a few times, of course, if it directly relates to a piece of hardware totally goen, then it would be time to either replace that piece or replace the computer as you see fit.

Re: 32 or 64 bit?
I tested my monitor by hooking it up to my wife's computer, and it worked. I then pulled all the cards out, and just put it back to a basic computer, but was unable to get it to work. I took out the hard drive and hooked it up to my wife's computer (same model). In a little while I need to go get me a computer so I can have the fun job of installing everything.

Re: 32 or 64 bit?
Bryant that was my thought. If it won't power up then it is one of two things Motherboard or power supply. Nothing else can cause this.
Ernie, does it power up at all? Since you called it the Black Screen of Death this would make me think it was the power supply or Motherboard. You said you tried to hard drive in your wife's computer but didn't say what the result was.

Re: 32 or 64 bit?
Dale,
When i turned on the power, the power supply fan and light would, plus the cpu fan would run. Also, you could hear some programs loading, but no usual beeps. When I opened the side of my wife's computer, I took off the wires to the hard drive and put them on mine. When I turn on her computer, it opens as if it were mine. In fact I'm using it right now. The nice thing about this is I was able to go in and download everything I needed to an external hard drive. Need to get going... I have a new computer to put together. Take Care, Ernie |

Also realize that price is for absolute barebones. This means you are not getting a 1TB (1000GB) drive as it is only a 250GB, the Video card you will get is the internal card and not as good as the one they mention in the hype, lowest level of Windows 7 and more. To but it bluntly this is a low-end computer to get people into using their computer/TV setup to do everything together. When you start trying to put everything in an all-in-one then every component suffers.

Re: 32 or 64 bit?
Thanks for you valued adviced, that's the 2nd thing that holding me back from buying, iI know that AMD processor is not as good as Intel, the first thing was that its w7..the only reason that made me think of buying this is the size, the one i think that you've looked at was the starter pack, they have other higher end, bigger hhd,/ memory, etc., but if this will not work real good with Hoster..i then i may have to gt another laptop..i don't like logging in big and heavy tower.

Re: 32 or 64 bit?
See what you think of this one:
http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/optiplex-780-aio/pd This is in the Small Business part which gives you more options available.

Re: 32 or 64 bit?
Optiplex are good, i have the older model small chassis optiplex sx280 i had them for over 8 yrs. i had 4 of them and 3 of them fried at the same time just 2 weeks ago. the last one is what i'm using now. optiplex are mostly use in hosptals..the only thing about optiplex was you have to use a ext. pc to tv converter..but anyway thanks..

Re: 32 or 64 bit?
That maybe true but that seems to be the way a lot of them are going.

Billyo, Dale has stated many times that he prefers the Intel or AMD and if I remember correctly it has to do for the most part that Intel has a patent on some mathimatical process that AMD can't use. I am sure Dale is correct on this and hope I am not misquoting him. I have had AMD computers for years and presently have a laptop (2003 model) that I use for my hoster karaoke shows. I have never had a problem due to the AMD. I also have two pc's that have AMD's and never had a problem with them either although I don't run Hoster on them. I have a backup HP laptop running Vista with a Intel processor and I would use this for a show only in an emergency. I would be inclined to believe the HP backup uncertainty is due to Vista and not Intel. Apparentely, the mathimatical issue advantage that Intel has over AMD has no bearing on Hoster but may well be an issue concerning some other math intensive programs. I for one would not hesitate to purchase a computer with a AMD processor based on my experience with AMD. I would think that if you had an option to get the Intel over the AMD and the cost was not an issue that would be the way to go based on Dale's concerns. Walt |

Re: 32 or 64 bit?
Actually this is not coming from me, but from MTU. There are some situations in Hoster that can cause problems with Hoster on an AMD computer. You may never have happened to run into one, but some have and there is nothing MTU can do to prevent these. Don't ask me specifics because I don't know exactly what they are.

Re: 32 or 64 bit?
that is what i was gonna say about AMD processor, that some people are having problems running Hoster with AMD processor, I for one had never used a pc/ laptop with AMD,but from what i've been reading about, i'm having 2nd thoughts.. i'm leaning towards the Optiplex small factory form (due to it's size ) Genuine W7 Home premium 32bit, Intel Core duo E7500, the problem was this model only carries and integrated video intel gma 4500 video, ( i wanted and ATI Radeon ), im not worried about the price nor the amount of space on the hhd, nor the memory,i can always upgrade those ( if possible, since i have not work with w7 i'm not sure how easy it would be to clone the hhd, and change the memory )..but anyway i'm still looking around...
