Re: uninstall previous version before installing hoster 4.21?

Yes, but after you get them all done be sure you reboot the computer to set all of the changes.

Re: uninstall previous version before installing hoster 4.21?

well, I have installed necessary updates, rebooted the computer and still no luck. What I do have is a hoster program that for some reason does not fire up when I click on the desktop icon, of which there are now two for some reason. It is possible that hoster 4.22 had already been installed by my IT friend and then I perhaps installed it again...? I don't really know, but seeing as that my downloads expire Sep 10, I am inclined at this point to uninstall everything and start over. I have loaded no discs onto my hard drive so, assuming that there will be no problem with reuploading the software (via the internet or the cd roms I received in the mail), I do not have a problem with doing this. My question is this: since I have purchased the hoster suite that installs on two computers, and have indeed installed on two computers--the computer in question and one other which executes the program correctly--will I have a problem reinstalling on one of those computers? Are there any other problems that anyone can see regarding the situation I have just described?

i dont think its possible to install 2 hoster programs in one comp., since when you install one and try to re-install another one again w/o removing the first one ,a window will pop up asking or telling you if you wanna replace the first one..i dont know if this will work but it's worth trying..you might wanna burn a copy of the download and removed the 2nd copy of hoster on your pc, then re-install the copy again on a 2nd comp.just make sure youre on line to do this..it might or may not work..if not them submit a ticket..

Re: uninstall previous version before installing hoster 4.21?

If there are two folders/copies of Hoster on the computer then it may be getting confused preventing it from opening.
Are you sure there are two copies on the computer? Right click on each desktop icon and go to properties. Look to see if they are pointing to the same location or if they are pointing to different locations. If they point to the same location then you only have one copy with two shortcut icons. If they point to different locations then somehow you have two copies on the computer.
Either way if you are going to re-install then you will need to uninstall one through the Hoster installation file. This should release one install on MTU's server so you can re-install. If there is a second copy somewhere then delete all the files in the two folders where the two copies are located. DO NOT DELETE anything in the folder C:/MTU or folders under it as you will lose any imports or database you have previously done.
After you have acomplished this then restart the computer, Download the 4.22 again and install. I would wait an hour after uninstalling before you re-install to allow the server to process that before you try to re-install.

If you right click each icon and select properties do they both show exactly the same path in the target window which should be: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Hoster.exe.
If there is anything different post back here with the info.

Or is there an extension to the Hoster icon name like A,b, 1 or 2.
is one slightly different to the other. ? If one has an extension delete that one this will only remove the shortcut.

I think what I would do is delete both desktop icons and try reinstalling Hoster as normal one more time.

If still no luck report back.

Dale beat me to this answer but they are much the same follow Dales answer as he deals with what to do if you have 2 copies

Roy.

Re: uninstall previous version before installing hoster 4.21?

So I ascertained that both icons lead to the same location. I recycled both of them and ran hoster422setupexe. The installation program gave me the choice to upgrade or remove. I chose upgrade and the installation ran to completion. I restarted and when I clicked on the new desktop icon, the same "i'm thinking" icon occurred followed by nothing. I attempted a full uninstall twice, once by way of the control panel followed by "programs and features" wherein I hilighted Hoster and "uninstall", and once by way of hoster422setupexe wherein I selected the "remove" option in the installation program. Both attempts resulted in this:
"Unhandled Exception
Error Number: 0x80040702
Description: Failed to load DLL:_ismtu
Setup will now terminate"
Ostensibly I now have a computer program that I can neither run nor get rid of. What now?

Your best bet then is to submit a Support Ticket to get MTU to look at it. I am not completely sure exactly what you have done at what point.
