Exclamation KMH files with Hoster 4.20

I noticed with Hoster 4.20 that when I import mp3+g or ZIP files that Hoster does not create a new KMA file as in previous versions, and put it in my songs folder. Instead it writes a new kmh file and places it in the original folder with the mp3 and cdg files for the song (mp3+g files), and for the zip files it wries a zip.kmh file in the original folder with the zip file. The problem that I see is backing up the song files in case of a problem with my primary songs drive, and also syncing with my back-up Hoster computer. I have my mp3+g files and my zip files in folders by disk. As a result, if I want to back up or sync my files I have to look in HUNDREDS of different folders to bebuild my songs database. I also end up with a lot of files on my primary songs drive that I don't use due to culling many of the duplicates after deciding which are the best versions to use in my shows. Any suggestions?

Re: KMH files with Hoster 4.20

What I have done is created individual sub-folders under Hoster Songs. One for KMA, one for KMH and originals to go along with those, and one for my audio (MP3) songs. This limits the number of folders that Rebuild has to look in to build the listing.

Since Hoster does not recompress any song file that is already compressed (MP3, ZIP, etc.) so it makes sense not to recreate a complete copy of the original file again. This also allows you to use those files in other programs without any problems.

Re: KMH files with Hoster 4.20

I presume there is not an option to use KMA or KMH files when importing. I would prefer to keep my original zips on a separate hard drive and have the kma files made by MTU when importing as a "copy of my zip" (could always creates a zip using songverter). Is the KMH file a permanent part of Hoster now?

Re: KMH files with Hoster 4.20

Yes. The main purpose was to handle video files which could not be made into KMA files. The decision was made to use it to for all formats that are already compressed as Hoster was not recompressing those anyway. The secondary consideration was that several users wanted to be able to use their zip files with other programs as well as Hoster. This also allows this.

The KMH file is only a 256 byte header file and Hoster does nothing to those zip files.

You can still keep your zip files on a separate hard drive. You can import those files from any drive internal or external..If you are wanting to have a separate copy then make a copy of them on the other drive as your back-up (original) copy.

Re: KMH files with Hoster 4.20

Also,
If you notice the Speed at which it will create/import your .zip/mp3+g files now by only creating a small .kmh file its MUCH MUCH faster then when it had to create the entire .kma file and make a copy of each of your songs.

It will also not double your Storage space required to import the mp3+g or .zip files.
