Re: Zip files

I can see the logic behind this with regard to music and video files where they are used by other programs but, at least in my case, karaoke files are only played through Hoster. My solution has been to batch convert to .bin through songverter then import as KMA.

Re: Zip files

There are some who use their zip files in other programs and this is why they went that way. Personally I don't use zip files anyway so not a problem for me.

Re: Zip files

Does it take less hard drive space to have your bin files zipped and create KMH files, then to just go ahead and import discs like normal to KMA?

You can't import BIN files from within ZIP. Only MP3+G can be imported that way.

Re: Zip files

I have software that converts bin files to CD+G and MP3 and zip at the same time.

One step from Bin to Zip.

I just want to know if this would take less hard drive space to do this, it may take too much time to be worth it, but if it saves a lot of storage space it may be worth it

Thanks, Stu

Songverter will do this too. This wasn't exactly what you asked in first question. You asked if zipping a bin file would save space.

Obviously a Zip file (containing MP3 & CDG files) will take less space on a drive then a BIN file. The drawback of course is quality loss.

Look at it this way. If you import from a zip file, Hoster will create a separate KMH file in the same folder where the zip is located. These files must remain together for Hoster to find them. And of course you have a slight lag because Hoster must unzip it to play.
If you import it from a BIN, Hoster creates a KMA file containing all the information (with less loss than MP3) and places it with the rest of your KMA files. You can then take the BIN and store it in any location or on another hard drive if you want.
