Unhappy lost all 65000 song on external hd

Help, I have used hoster for over 2 yrs andnever had any problems untill up grading to 3318 and then 3319. Today i turned my computor on and all 65,000 + songs were gone from my external hard drive-- it worked fine last night. Can someone give me an idea of what happened and how to fix it?

try rebuilding your song database..that might work..i kinda noticed that everyone that did an upgrade the kma files are being moved ,if rebuilding doesn't work, you might wanna think about going back to the older version 3.317

Paul, make sure your external's drive letter didn't change. If that happened then you can reset the drive letter to what it was or rebuild the database.
Billyo, not everyone has had this happen. The reason it looks bad is because those who successfully upgrade don't report it here. This one I suspect does not have anything to do with the upgrade.

thats true...but why is this happening..and btw this might be in the wrong thread but i still havent heard from mtu about my problem

I don't think rebuilding my song data base will work. The songs (65,000) that were on my external hard drive are gone. I had them stored in G:\songs. when i go to my computer an open G then songs it says EMPTY. The songs are not there.

sorry to hear that..do you have a back-up to where you can copy your songs? .. if not this might and may not work make sure your ext. drive is plugged in and maybe..just maybe if you do a system restore...?

see if they were moved to your c: drive

search your c: drive for .kma

Paul, here is another recommendation from Karen K. It recovered her lost files completely.

Paretologic demo locates the lost files before you pay. Then, if you see your files are found, you buy the Registration Code for $39.95. Looks like an excellent solution for your problem too.

I think most of my kma files have been recovered. I took my external HD to a computer guru that does all the computer work for the county (gov) that i live in. He told me today, over the phone, that he had recovered 63,000 kma files, but as of yet we don't know if they are good. He will be coming to my home tonight, or tomorrow. I really won't know if they are good, usable files until i connect to my computer, and try to play them in MTU. I am ecstatic at the thought of having my songs back.

Question: (And please make any answers simple and easy to understand)
If i do get most, but not all of my songs back,my song book, and maybe some the song locations, could be incorrect, would i then go to build song database and do that, or how should i proceed? This may seem like a stupid Question but i really don't know, and i do not want to take any chances of doing the wrong thing. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated

Read this Post about Hoster 3.320, and then download and install it.

The problem is in 3.318 and 3.319, now fixed in 3.320.

We too thought we had a virus when we unknowingly lost files not related to Hoster at all. We are confident we found the code that along with Windows' random operations did the NTSF index damage. We are confident we have fixed the problem, but only you folks seeing the problem repeatedly can tell us it is fixed.

Thank you for your patience. We truly are sorry this happened, and believe we have solved it.

Admin, I have copletely recovered all my kma files,recopied on to 2 other externals, and plan on coping to a third one(maybe even a fourth one).I would like to thank MTU for there fast , and caring response.I love MTU and all the people that make it truely the best system in the world.
I have Down loaded and installed 3320, and it works prefectly. My Question is should i uninstall 3318 and 3319. Please advise me.

If you have installed 3.320 then it should have overwritten 3.318 and 3.319 so not necessary. Glad you were able to recover. This just goes to show that backing up your KMA files can save a lot of work.

I have four copies of all, one on Hard drive of main show computer, one on backup laptop, and two ext. 500Gb HD worth. ONLY WAY. I always bring my backup laptop to gigs.

Best Recommendation!

I have checked around and the best recommendation we can make to recover files from a failing hard drive is SpinRite from GRC.com.

KickstartNews reviewed SpinRite v6.0 that seems to be very much like your condition:
The opportunity for the first test appeared only one day after we received our copy of version 6. An 80GB hard drive on one of our busy storage servers decided to pack it in. Prior to trying SpinRite we were still able to access the drive intermittently but it was impossible to copy data or run a file undelete utility. A handful of important files had been written to the drive subsequent to the last backup the previous night; files which we needed within about 48 hours, which meant that a professional data recovery service (with its three week backlog) was out of the question. We removed the drive and installed it in an identical hardware configuration, then booted SpinRite 6 from CD and did a Level 2 recovery (see above for recovery level definitions). After 22 hours, SpinRite completed its work and pronounced the drive fully recovered. We reinstalled the drive in the original server. It ran perfectly, the research assistant who had created the required files copied them off the drive and that was that. Nice job SpinRite 6. The drive was still running fine as we went to publication with this review two weeks after the incident. We used a level 2 setting in SpinRite: Recover Unreadable Data.

This can perform a rebuild of the data, as well as an analysis of the "health" of the hard drive.

GRC.com is Gibson Research Corp. owned and run by Steve Gibson. Steve is one of the "keepers of the Internet"... a white hat man who consults for NSA, CIA, FBI and the likes. He has incredible knowledge of how things work. SpinRite is $89.00 for a new buyer, or less if you have a prior version. If it recovers your 13,000 files, it's worth ever penny. Here are more testimonials if the one above didn't convince you.
