Interesting point at MTU today... sales talked to 6 people about Vista.

It appears that ALL computer distributors were ready to cut over today. None of the biggies appear to have XP any more.

We'll start on Monday to prepare our Microsoft VisualStudio .NET to work with VISTA so we can compile for it. We're working hard on Microstudio 4.0. It now appears VISTA has stormed in and XP is REMOVED. Thus, we'll have to make Microstudio 4.0 work under Vista before releasing. I don't know if we can do that. If there is minimal work, we can. If major work required, we can't. Then we'll have to come out with a 4.001 for VISTA.

If there is a DirectX 10.0 that is very different, we may have to jump off a cliff now rather than later.
I'll add that to our schedule.

This is interesting. Sounds like it's going to be problematic. We may see a vista second edition, just like what happened in 98.

George most large institutions, businesses and even the government will always move slower to new operating systems. Figure that any problems/headaches that come up with a new program or OS would be multiplied a hundredfold for those larger networks.

I never jump right in...very foolish to want to be on the cutting edge especially with software, and a company that has a proven track record of releasing duds, like Microsoft did with the first 98, and ME.

A problem is just as bad a problem for the little guy experiencing it as it is for the corporation.

We've experienced problems with Internet Explorer 7. No reason to believe that 7 isn't included in Vista, and unless that part can be uninstalled and replaced with 6, they can keep Vista.

Heck, on my other box I'm still running 98SE and frankly have had no more problems than I do with XP on this one. I use Norton Ghost on both boxes. I know I'll upgrade eventually as the software manufacturers drop 98SE, but that's life.

By the time you upgrade that other box (98se) George you will have to throw it out and get a new one because the hardware won't be compatible with Vista....so much for backward compatability Mr Gates

I never buy production line units, but prefer to have them custom built, and upgraded as needed.

Regarding upgrading the OS, I was thinking in terms of XP. They didn't drop 98SE support until a couple of years ago so XP should be viable for another 5 or 6 years.
