Hoster 3.315 DOES RUN on Windows Vista

I couldn't find any posts concerning Windows Vista and Hoster compatability. Is it compatible and if so what version of Vista should I purchase? If I am in the wrong area please direct me to the correct forum area, thanks!

ADMIN NOTE: Hoster 3.315 does run on Vista. It was released February 16, 2007.

Right area but MTU does not support Vista yet. And there have been a couple of posts in here about Vista that said not all functions of Hoster work with Vista.

No icon to start in Vista???

I have Vista on the new laptop I picked up today... Only option... Now I downloaded Hoster to my computer but can't find the hoster icon to start the program??? Help!!!

Assuming Vista is similiar to other Windows OS's.
Try clicking "start" and then "Programs", or navigate to where Hoster was installed. You should be able to start it from there as well as send a shortcut to your desktop (right click on file).

Again, assuming it's not radically different.

Since Hoster doesn't yet support Vista, you may be stuck if it doesn't work

I don't believe any of the MTU products have been tested with Vista. I'd look for any announcements in the NEWS section of the website.

Beavis January 31st, 2007 08:09 AM

i bet it works fine.

Rippera January 31st, 2007 08:47 AM

No Hoster with Vista!!!

I did a search on my system (including start, programs...) Al it found was the instalation app. No "icon" or way to start the program... Hoster said it installed fine and never said anything about and error or anything... When I click on the app program it wants to install agian but either as upgrade or remove... I have a gig tonight and this is not cool... I even asked at Best buy if I could get a laptop with XP but they do not offer it anymore...
Laptop 1200.00
Hoster 199.00
Ots DJ (also does not work) 100.00
The fact I have a gig tonight with over 1500.00 invested to use a notebook computer that is useless to me now because of Vista... Priceless

Don't know where to go from here... I hope MTU makes a fix fast...

This may or may not get you up and running.

Go to your MTU default folder, normally C;\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited, and open the HOSTER FOLDER. Now double click the HOSTER.EXE file(looks like a small juke box).

If the program opens, you MAY be in business.

Close the program, go back to the Hoster folder.

Open the HOSTER FOLDER again and right click on the Jukebox. Click on SEND TO...(DESKTOP CREATE SHORTCUT).

If that all works, I'd sure check it out thoroughly before assuming it will work o.k at a gig.

What has happened to the computer you were using before you bought the laptop?

Rippera January 31st, 2007 11:15 AM

I hate Vista already...

I bought a laptop about a month ago and starting using it... Everything worked well... Then the speaker outputs stopped working... I took it back and Best Buy said they will replace it with a model that is similiar... Well They called and told me to come and pick it up.. Well I found out last night that it has Vista on it... I tried to load Hoster and Ots to no avail... Now I called BB this morning and they said it will be 199.95 for a version of XP to load on my notebook...

Ripper

I never wanted Vista...

Vista should work. Did you follow George's instructions and look for the Hoster executable?

Rippera January 31st, 2007 11:23 AM

By the way...

I understand that there has been posts saying that hoster has not been tested with Vista...

Do you think I should have said "I guess I don't want a laptop then"... Getting a refund was not an option at this point... It was past the 14 day return policy... (I would have even paid the 15% restocking fee) Now I'm with out my "old" computer also that I used before I sold it to buy a notebook computer... When it rains it pours...

Rippera January 31st, 2007 11:25 AM

I will try your instructions over lunch today...

Thanks for all the help... I have a gig in 7 hours...

Ripper

I'll update everyone on if it works or not... about 1 PM Central

Beavis January 31st, 2007 11:26 AM

LEGALLY... they did NOT replace what you took back under warranty. Get your money back and buy somewhere else that ships XP. I'm shocked that Best Buy has TOTALLY converted to VISTA. Heck, Microsoft just released it if I'm right.

This is NOT on our radar for development yet. We have a full plate. We DO NOT recommend anyone convert to VISTA. We will probably wait for at least SR1 to come out before we "waste" our time.

XP works fine. DON'T CHANGE TO VISTA!!!!!! :e :f

Solved for now...

Made some calls and the guy I sold my "old compter to" will sell it back to me! He was going to use it for Video editing... (He is a videographer for weddings) I had planned on purchasing 2 notebook computers... One for gigs and the other for back up... Now I'll use my desktop as back up... The best part is... I removed all the KMA files and hoster off of it before I sold it to him. He was going to wipe the harddrive and install XP PRO on it... Well he hasn't done anything with it yet so I'm good to go... (just have to reload all the same stuff and I'm golden... So for now there is a happy ending to today's gig situation... I do not want to go back to using discs... If even for a night... I hate to admit it but I have them all scattered around between my house, basement, truck, storage unit and so on... So finding them would have been a hassel... Back to my Sony desktop for now!
