I don't mean this to be a complaint, but I am new to Hoster. I have made a few posts on here, but I too, have a lot of questions that I can not find answers to and I don't know where to look. Some of the questions from posters get very nice and cordial answers. Others are less so. I feel somewhat intimidated to make a posting here with a question that I am not sure how to ask. I see over and over again "read the manual", it is in the manual. I printed the manual and I read it as much as my time will permit, but the manual is full of hypertext which is not of much use in printed form. So I go back to the on screen manual. I have always been better at understanding hard copies than screen print. On the website, I find words, terms, and abbreviations that are not in the manual. I know you guys who have been using Hoster for eons have grown up with it. Us new people are scratching our heads and spending a lot of time trying to figure it out. Things like "resets". I still am lost on them. At the present, I have an old E-machines desktop which my first download went onto. I was thinking that I would download to it and learn the program while my laptop was being shipped to me. My intent was to make the new laptop the primary Hoster control. Now, I am thinking of a second smaller and less powerfull laptop to be my primary and de-registering this here old E-machines box so my grandkids can play with it, and then make the present laptop my standby. I was under the impression that a person could have the program on any two machines at any one time providing, only one of these could be used as the show machine and a second could be used as a backup. As I understand it from postings tonight we are really supposed to be limited to the first two original computers. But with special resetting, which I know niothing about, we can install it on a new computer. I originally thought that de-registering a computer as a hosting unit would be done over the internet the same as when it was registered. Seems as though a little talk between computers could erase the permissive and return a computer to the Demo version of software with all its limitations. After that time,a successive computer could be set up. I Also when I reload Windows, I don't call MS for a new number. I load it in and send the registration and it goes through. I am sure that it reads the internal numbers and makes sure all is OK. That gets me down to the point of why I posted. Where does one find the rules and instructions about "resetting", such as who and how to contact? Someday soon I am going to want to do it. Thanks, Phil I have more to questions to follow... |
