Re: Hoster 5.06 Bug Reports

Let me help you understand. For decades MTU has provided software tools that work. From time to time, there are other programs that come on the scene and do this or that, which interfere with some MTU programs. Roxio was the worst as it make the optical drive inaccessible to any other program.

In 5.05, we added Tempo control, which took months of time to get the kinks out to work with Windows correctly. That is probably the explanation why Breakaway works with 5.05 and not 5.06.

I consider what you are reporting to be an incompatibility between Hoster and Breakaway... NOT a bug in Hoster.

Test 5.06 for a while, going through all the changes we list in the "Versions" topic. You can find the link at the top of the left navigation column in the manual, which you can run from Hoster's menu bar "Hoster Manual" command.

Simply put, if you don't want the new features in Hoster 5.06, then run 5.05.

We are not going to address this incompatibility this year, if ever. I am moving all these topics to a new Thread called "Breakaway SW doesn't run with 5.06" so others can see it, and to clear this "bug report" thread. Then, if others post they also run Breakaway, we will consider it. However, with our addition of Tempo, I doubt seriously if there is anything we can do to let other programs change the audio after we have Tempo/Key/Fade changed it.

Re: Breakaway SW doesn't work with 5.06

That will be OK, just keep it on your list please... We have our Hoster running great on 5.05. The Breakaway is so helpfull at our gigs, mainly the leveling of outputs. No more tracks you have to raise, only to have them blair out on the next song. Sandra was terriable at that and I always had to be near by on song changes...

Re: Breakaway SW doesn't work with 5.06

So what you want is a "Automatic Gain Control" (AGC) in Hoster?

We have considered that, and would be more willing to add that in than try to modify to work with some other code we have no control over.

AGC would be "Sweet"!

I also run into some of the same challanges of keeping the volume level just right! The volume level for Videos are well below that of KMA (CD+G, MP3+G) or KMH files. This requires close attention when swithching from Video to KMA/KMH otherwise the potential to make ears ring is there.

Should a post be made in Hoster new features request?

I think a discussion of audio normalization (AGC) has been on the table for a while now, I remember participating in the thread, and it was tabled for future consideration... so you would just be bumping the thread, or AGC conversation to freshen the discussion to current plans of MTU, and if, and how much interest the current clients and / or future buyers would have in this feature... then perhaps, MTU would put it on the feasibility schedule, and have engineering look at it! And judge the cost to benefit ratio!

I still vote YES to have an audio normalization feature built into Hoster, instead of having to add another program, ie. BreakAway, that may or may not work with the Hoster Programming Code... at least that way, we can keep it compatible as Hoster evolves...

Re: Breakaway SW doesn't work with 5.06

Auto gain control WITH multiband compressor - but it would have to be user adjustable like Breakaway (which I use now as well). The multiband is the key to why BreakAway sounds so good. It takes certain frequencies which are recorded too hot & only pulls them down automatically on the fly taking a somewhate bad recording and bringing it back to a decenet/tolerable sounding state - crispens up the over mix & adds a little punch to the low end as well.
Like in the OTSDJ, they have a killer multi band/AGC control as well. If Hoster could add this, that would be sweet, not to affect/change the actual files, but an inline plugin doing it in real time.

Nice idea My DJ program has one "autogain"..but it is not 100% flawless, however, it also has an "auto-remember" feature so when you adjust the gain on the fly it remembers that and makes that correction for the future playing of that particular song (this is used for those odd songs that even with the auto-gain on , they still don't seem to balance out well).
