I'm thinking about upgrading to the latest version of Video Hoster. Which laptop should I use? If I stick with Windows XP on the Inspiron, I'll upgrade the memory to the max of 1GB.

Your opinions please?
Also consider that when you use the HDMI out, that you won't be able to use the VGA or S-Video connections in unison that you are using now... price the HDMI cable for the distance from your karaoke station to the monitor(s)... monoprice.com

Re: I have 2 laptops, which should I use?

I have been using W7 Ultimate 32-bit for nearly a year with no problems. 4GB memory 3-core Athlon processor, 500GB 7200rpm drive. Since this machine is only used for DJ & karaoke, I will be upgrading to 64-bit professional in the near future, probably when MTU issues a 64-bit version of MicroStudio. My only caution to anyone switching operating systems is that it is always best to do a clean install, wiping the hard drive clean, letting Windows update apply all of the fixes, then follow the Vista "do's & don'ts" before installing Hoster.

On a similar note, we have found that using the VGA output to a video converter ($29 on line) and running the composite video output through a 75' snake using one of the XLR mic channels works great. We regularly run 2 video displays and occasionally 3. With 4, the video quality drops off rapidly.

With the full version of Hoster you can load it on 2 computers allowing you to try both computers so you can decide whats best yourself.

I was thinking about this too... I can try both laptops to see how each one performs. I'd probably import tracks on the Vista laptop because it has USB 2.0 vs 1.1 on my older Inspiron. Memory for the Inspiron is pretty cheap... $19 for 512MB. I just bought 2 ;)

I also just ordered the MTU external USB drive ;)
