I have 2 laptops, which should I use?

I am running Hoster 3.318 on Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 4150 (256MB, 1.7GHz Pentium 4). This laptop has s-video out.

I also own a Dell XPS M1330 (3GB, 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo) with Vista (I have not been successful loading XP on this laptop). This laptop has HDMI out.

I'm thinking about upgrading to the latest version of Video Hoster. Which laptop should I use? If I stick with Windows XP on the Inspiron, I'll upgrade the memory to the max of 1GB.

Your opinions please?

Thanks billyo! My Inspiron 4150 is older though and the max RAM it supports is 1GB.

I think that you would be underpowered with only 1GB memory if you want to use the full potential of the latest Hoster.

I am using Windows 7 as shown in my signature with no problems. The only thing I would say is my Windows 7 came already installed on my computer, it was not upgraded from any other versions. I think some people posted problems after upgrading from earlier versions of Windows.

You still have to follow the recommended settings as laid out by MTU to have it run right whatever version of Windows you run with.:r:)

I have been using Vista ever since it came out. Granted that there were a lot of problems, but with a lot of "tweaking" (turning off all unnecessary background services) and making ALL the necessary changes per MTU, it is now solid and I don't even have any shutdowns any more even when I run BA. Although XP has been proven to have less problems, many of us on the Forum still use Vista. Your Dell machine appears to have the best "specs" to be able to run the latest Hoster. I even play mpx Videos without any problems that others have reported.

My show computer uses XP, my home computers use Vista & 7. Hoster runs beatifully on all of them, however I do have at least 2 gb memory on each machine. Never had any major issues with the Vista machine as long as (like stated) you do all the necessary tweaks per MTU, also make sure nothing else is running in the background (virus programs, firewalls, etc.)

Also consider that when you use the HDMI out, that you won't be able to use the VGA or S-Video connections in unison that you are using now... price the HDMI cable for the distance from your karaoke station to the monitor(s)... monoprice.com

I have been using W7 Ultimate 32-bit for nearly a year with no problems. 4GB memory 3-core Athlon processor, 500GB 7200rpm drive. Since this machine is only used for DJ & karaoke, I will be upgrading to 64-bit professional in the near future, probably when MTU issues a 64-bit version of MicroStudio. My only caution to anyone switching operating systems is that it is always best to do a clean install, wiping the hard drive clean, letting Windows update apply all of the fixes, then follow the Vista "do's & don'ts" before installing Hoster.

On a similar note, we have found that using the VGA output to a video converter ($29 on line) and running the composite video output through a 75' snake using one of the XLR mic channels works great. We regularly run 2 video displays and occasionally 3. With 4, the video quality drops off rapidly.

With the full version of Hoster you can load it on 2 computers allowing you to try both computers so you can decide whats best yourself.:r:)

I was thinking about this too... I can try both laptops to see how each one performs. I'd probably import tracks on the Vista laptop because it has USB 2.0 vs 1.1 on my older Inspiron. Memory for the Inspiron is pretty cheap... $19 for 512MB. I just bought 2 ;)

I also just ordered the MTU external USB drive ;)
