Billyo why do you have to get a new HHD. Just reinstall XP and everything else you had on it. The hard drive is not destroyed. At the worst it will have to be reformatted and reloaded. Physically the drive is ok. If you don't understand how to do this get some local help from a computer repair place.
Have you checked Microsoft tech support (online) to see if there is a way to recover without having to reload?
Did you follow the steps in the Microsoft article I sent you and install their patch before you did SP3?
