Question on Build Songs Database

When I download songs, they all go to C:\MTU|Hoster. Before, they would all go to F:\Songs (External HD). When I open Build Songs Database, in the Song source folders, I have F:\Songs.... At the bottom under Songs database destination folder, I have, C:\MTU\Hoster. How do I change the destination to F:\Songs, like it was before? Do I click the button, Build Songs Database?? It seems like things are changing around since MTU seems to keep changing it's location.

Thanks in advance!!

MTU has been moving folders around to accomodate Vista.

When you import your tracks into Hoster be sure to use the "Save To Folder" button to select the folder you want them imoprted to. In your case select F:\Songs.

I would go to the C:\MTU\Hoster folder an move all of the KMA's in that folder to your F:\Songs folder then rebuild your database (be sure to select the F:\Songs folder in the Build Database window). This should get you back on track.

I Hope This Helps!

I am having a problem while building the song database. Every once in awhile, a box opens and says.... Field 'Songs.mfgName' cannot be a zero length string (3315) Would you like to see help? When I click YES another box opens and says Cannot find the jeterr 40.chm file. Do you want to try and find this file yourself? I click NO, because I don't even know what it's talking about. I'm halfway to 25256 songs, and it's done this maybe 30 times. Any Ideas?

I've never seen that error message and I don't want to send you on a "wild goose chase". One of the other board members will get to your question soon I'm sure. We'll both learn something new!

Hang in there!

After rebuilding the Songs Database..... In the Build Songs Database, The Songs database destination folder, still says C:\mtu\Hoster\ instead of F:\Songs....... When I open Import Tracks and go to save to folder, it will only let me put in F:\ and not F:\Songs. I hope I'm not getting in over my head.

That is where the database document is located, not where your kma's are locasted.

Are you telling me that you can't select your F:\Songs folder? When you click on the "Save To Folder" button it should onpen a "Select Folder" window. Use the "Look In" window at the top and direct it to your F:\Songs folder.

When I click Songs and hit Select.... In the Save To Folder Box, I get F:\ Instead of F:\Songs.... In the Build Songs Database, under Song Source Folders, I have F:\Songs. In the Songs Database Destination Folder I have, C:\MTU\Hoster\. I can't change the Destination Folder to F:\Songs.

What operating system are you using? Vista has a nasty habit of hiding stuff. If you are using XP you can try reinstalling Hoster.

This may sound too simple but you have to open the Songs folder.

Sorry I didn't catch this sooner.

Madjim,
Sorry, but I'm confused???? In the Build Songs Database, right under the Add folder and the Delete folder, there is F:\Songs in the window. I also have a Songs in Explore... in F:\Songs (the external drive) where all my kma files are

You don't change the KMA destination folder in the database rebuild screen. That is only for telling Hoster where they are, not where you want them. If you want to change the destination for imported songs to go, you need to change that in the actual import screen. Nothing has changed in this department, it's always been this way.

Ernie, the "Songs Database Destination Folder" CANNOT BE CHANGED. We MUST know where your Songs.mdb database file is, so we only allow creating it where we know it is, and only allow creating one of them. We used to allow creating it wherever you wanted to and, believe me, it was a nightmare for everyone. It didn't take long for even technical folks to get their datbases scrambled and forget what was what.

Our database is designed for folks that don't want or need to know where it is... just that it works, and it will. Just put your KMA files where you want them, then tell Hoster in the Tools menu > Songs Database > Rebuild button ("Rebuild Songs Database" dialog) where your KMA Files NOW are. It will find them. If you have duplicate BookIDs, the SECOND one found is not added (the first is used).

The Songs Database > Add button allows "Merging" songs with duplicate BookIDs, and will renumber the SECOND one found to a new unused BookID.

PLease.... read the manual on this Tools menu > Songs Database command if you are still lost... which I hope by now you have squared things away.

Let us know please.

Question about Merging:

Rather than re-import all the songs in the list that say they are duplicate IDs (I have over 2,000) - is it possible to Add all the same folders (used in rebuilding) and Merge them. Then when it finds the Dups, shouldn't they just be re-numbered? Or is this a stupid question?

Not a stupid question. Yes you can do it that way. Problem most people have with that is it renumbers them and it messes up there books so they have to re-print.
