Installed 4 memory problem error 1004

Upgraded Hoster from lastest last version to 4. Started fine at first, then 4 hung. Re-started 4, now I get this error, a small window named "Hoster", the text of the error window is "Unknown (1004)" Then "would you like to see help?. When you click "yes" you get this. Window labled "Windows Help" The text is "There is not enough memory for this task. Quit one or more programs to increase available memory, and then try again. (2)"

Tried uninstalling Hoster and re-installing. Same thing. Laptop is XP Pro with SP3 and all updates installed.

This is odd because when I first installed a couple of hours ago, it upgraded the old version and ran fine until it crashed.

Any ideas?

Andy

Installed 4 memory problem error 1004

I Had exactly the same problem, except that it never ran fine. I had the error right off the bat, as it was processing files after the install. I had to revert to 3.21. I am also running XP Pro, and have a gig of RAM.

Product: NONE
Version: 4.0
Windows: XPPRO

Question:
I just tried to install Hoster 4.0 as an upgrade from Hoster 3.21. Here is what happened...

1) During the upgrade, I receive an Error Unknown (1004).
2) I clicked Yes to see help.
3) I get a message:
There is not enough memory for this task.
Quit one or more programs to increase available memory,
and then try again.
4) Hoster attempted to process some files, but an error loop occurred
and I had to reboot. I was getting Error 1004 over an over as each file
was processed.
5) Upon restart, I attempted to enter hoster 4 and received the same
error before as listed above. (error 1004)
6) I now receive an Unhandled exception at 0x004cbbc39 in Hoster.exe
0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000008.

You don't have to back-up to version 3.321 because it is included with the 4.0 install as 3.4. In your Hoster program folder is a second Hoster executable, call Hoster34.exe. Run this and you are running Version 3.321 as a back-up for problems with 4.0
The 1004 error is an error that also plagues Microsoft Office and especially their macros and Visual Basic. Do you have Office on this computer and if so what version is it?

How much memory does your laptop have? What is running in the background?

3.4 runs fine

3.4 does seem to run fine. Got a gig of ram, Office 2003 installed. Ran all the updates and installed service pack 3 and updated the Office 2003 app before installing Hoster 4.

Damm, was looking forward to setting up 4.

Thanks for the quick response.

I had this problem for quite a while during beta testing. It finally went away after installing Internet Explorer 7.

Re: Installed 4 memory problem error 1004

Douglas: You don't have to back-up to version 3.321 because it is included with the 4.0 install as 3.4. In your Hoster program folder is a second Hoster executable, call Hoster34.exe. Run this and you are running Version 3.321 as a back-up for problems with 4.0

==> Pat: Thanks! I did not know that.

Douglas: The 1004 error is an error that also plagues Microsoft Office and especially their macros and Visual Basic. Do you have Office on this computer and if so what version is it?

==> Yes. I have the following installed.

1) Office XP (Office 2002). Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Frontpage, Outlook.

2) Access 97 - I use this for another application that I have
on the laptop.

3) Oracle 9i - I use this for another application on this laptop. It is
usually turned off.

4) SQL Server 2000 - I use this for another application on this laptop. It is
usually turned off.

5) MySql - I use this for another application on this laptop. It is
usually turned off.

6) Visual Studio 6 - I use this for another application on this laptop.

7) Visual Studio .Net 2005 - I use this for another application
on this laptop.

==> I have never seen the 1004 error before this.

As Mindonstrike said install IE7 if you don't have it. That has fixed it for him and others as well.
In Office it requires doing things that most people wouldn't so that is why you haven't seen the error.

Is there a solution?

I have this same problem and have been watching for a solution on this thread. Since I have SP3, IE7 MP 11, 1 GB ram, and every custom update available installed, I have to assume the problem is caused by MS Office also being installed. I don't really want to start uninstalling random products from this PC hoping the problem will go away. (This is a home system not a KJ system) If I 'know' what needs to be unistalled I'll try that. However, if this problem is caused by an Office product being installed, a work-around in the Hoster code should be possible.
Has then been any further inventigation into this scenario?
In the mean time I can only use Hoster 3.4

It is not a problem of having Office installed. It was stated that Office has also shown this error.
Have you all done the free upgrade to 4.01 and did it help?
Try having task manager open when you try to open Hoster and see how much memory is in use before and as you try to open it. Watch the processor too and see what percentage of it is being used at the time.

Memory Problem Error 1004

I have 4.01 installed.
I also downloaded and installed it twice as other people had tried that with some success.

Task manager shows no jump in memory when Hoster starts. CPU maxes out though. The computer is a DELL Dimension 2400 pentium 4 2.66 GHZ with 1GB memory.

I have also tried disabling all other software that may be running, including the AVAST antivirus.

Smile You're not alone !

When i installed H4.00 on my desk pc which has xp, ie7, media 11 i get
unknown (4001) followed by not enough memory and report to microsoft.

I then installed H4.01 but the problem remains the same.

Although H4.01 did execute on my laptop (xp), the display has a problem when a song is played and i get errors saying hoster can only play songs in 44.1Khz.

I have been using H3.4 as i just don't seem to be able to fix the problem.

I have no office programs installed !
