Installed 4 memory problem error 1004

Upgraded Hoster from lastest last version to 4. Started fine at first, then 4 hung. Re-started 4, now I get this error, a small window named "Hoster", the text of the error window is "Unknown (1004)" Then "would you like to see help?. When you click "yes" you get this. Window labled "Windows Help" The text is "There is not enough memory for this task. Quit one or more programs to increase available memory, and then try again. (2)"

Tried uninstalling Hoster and re-installing. Same thing. Laptop is XP Pro with SP3 and all updates installed.

This is odd because when I first installed a couple of hours ago, it upgraded the old version and ran fine until it crashed.

Any ideas? :m

Installed 4 memory problem error 1004

I Had exactly the same problem, except that it never ran fine. I had the error right off the bat, as it was processing files after the install. I had to revert to 3.21. I am also running XP Pro, and have a gig of RAM.

Product: NONE
Version: 4.0
Windows: XPPRO

Question:
I just tried to install Hoster 4.0 as an upgrade from Hoster 3.21. Here is what happened...

1) During the upgrade, I receive an Error Unknown (1004).
2) I clicked Yes to see help.
3) I get a message:
There is not enough memory for this task.
Quit one or more programs to increase available memory,
and then try again.
4) Hoster attempted to process some files, but an error loop occurred
and I had to reboot. I was getting Error 1004 over an over as each file
was processed.
5) Upon restart, I attempted to enter hoster 4 and received the same
error before as listed above. (error 1004)
6) I now receive an Unhandled exception at 0x004cbbc39 in Hoster.exe
0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000008.

How much memory does your laptop have? What is running in the background?

You don't have to back-up to version 3.321 because it is included with the 4.0 install as 3.4. In your Hoster program folder is a second Hoster executable, call Hoster34.exe. Run this and you are running Version 3.321 as a back-up for problems with 4.0
The 1004 error is an error that also plagues Microsoft Office and especially their macros and Visual Basic. Do you have Office on this computer and if so what version is it?

lamconsul July 16th, 2008 11:51 PM

3.4 runs fine

3.4 does seem to run fine. Got a gig of ram, Office 2003 installed. Ran all the updates and installed service pack 3 and updated the Office 2003 app before installing Hoster 4.

Damm, was looking forward to setting up 4.

Thanks for the quick response.

I had this problem for quite a while during beta testing. It finally went away after installing Internet Explorer 7.

sounds to me as if the custom updates were not done.

==> Yes. I have the following installed.

1) Office XP (Office 2002). Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Frontpage, Outlook.

2) Access 97 - I use this for another application that I have
on the laptop.

3) Oracle 9i - I use this for another application on this laptop. It is
usually turned off.

4) SQL Server 2000 - I use this for another application on this laptop. It is
usually turned off.

5) MySql - I use this for another application on this laptop. It is
usually turned off.

6) Visual Studio 6 - I use this for another application on this laptop.

7) Visual Studio .Net 2005 - I use this for another application
on this laptop.

==> I have never seen the 1004 error before this.

As Mindonstrike said install IE7 if you don't have it. That has fixed it for him and others as well.
In Office it requires doing things that most people wouldn't so that is why you haven't seen the error.

Re: Installed 4 memory problem error 1004

I Already have IE7 installed (7.0.5730.11). Any other suggestions?

RandyMcCharles July 25th, 2008 02:37 PM

Is there a solution?

I have this same problem and have been watching for a solution on this thread. Since I have SP3, IE7 MP 11, 1 GB ram, and every custom update available installed, I have to assume the problem is caused by MS Office also being installed. I don't really want to start uninstalling random products from this PC hoping the problem will go away. (This is a home system not a KJ system) If I 'know' what needs to be unistalled I'll try that. However, if this problem is caused by an Office product being installed, a work-around in the Hoster code should be possible.
Has then been any further inventigation into this scenario?
In the mean time I can only use Hoster 3.4

ddouglass July 25th, 2008 03:17 PM

It is not a problem of having Office installed. It was stated that Office has also shown this error.
Have you all done the free upgrade to 4.01 and did it help?
Try having task manager open when you try to open Hoster and see how much memory is in use before and as you try to open it. Watch the processor too and see what percentage of it is being used at the time.

Memory Problem Error 1004

I have 4.01 installed.
I also downloaded and installed it twice as other people had tried that with some success.

Task manager shows no jump in memory when Hoster starts. CPU maxes out though. The computer is a DELL Dimension 2400 pentium 4 2.66 GHZ with 1GB memory.

I have also tried disabling all other software that may be running, including the AVAST antivirus.

You're not alone !

When i installed H4.00 on my desk pc which has xp, ie7, media 11 i get
unknown (4001) followed by not enough memory and report to microsoft.

I then installed H4.01 but the problem remains the same.

Although H4.01 did execute on my laptop (xp), the display has a problem when a song is played and i get errors saying hoster can only play songs in 44.1Khz.

I have been using H3.4 as i just don't seem to be able to fix the problem.

I have no office programs installed !

Do you have SP3 and the rest of the Custom Updates from Microsoft installed? This is not the AUto updates or Express Updates from the Microsoft web site. Those types of updates will only download and install the updates Microsoft deems as "Critcal Updates"

This is correct. Hoster will not play files that were recorded in anything other than 44.1KHz. This error message was added so you would know that those files originally recorded in any other setting will cause extreme problems including crashing Hoster so they have prevented those files from playing.

Hoster 4.0 Error 1004 Possibile Solution

I have A Shuttle SN41G2 and I could Never get this to open up without the 1004 Error. So I Downloaded Belarc Advisory, All this program does is take a snapshot of your installed Components and let's you know if anything is not installed Correctly. Even though I had all the updates and fixes, It told me I had 2 Security Fixes that failed to install Properly. So I trid to install just the fixes and couldn't so I wiped everything clean and started over. When I had everything back on the PC except the Music, I ran Belarc again and Everything was up to date and running fine, No errors. I put hoster back on my Shuttle and it worked fine, So I put music back on my PC and imported without a problem. Not saying it will work for everyone but find out if all the updates are installed correctly and not just on the PC.

The 1004 error has been a real mess to solve. The best I am aware of is it involves using the Access with and two different Databases; Songs and Singers.

We have gone through the code several times, and have corrected some DB related problems each time... that Visual Studio .NET does not report as problems! :r :m

We found and fixed more in 4.02. We have used Access DB in Hoster since 2001, and never saw this problem before adding the Singers.mdb.

We are testing 4.02 Beta 5 tonight.

As was said above, if your Windows isn't right, you "MAY" have problems. Not trying to shift the blame, but point out the fact that if anything is off base in Windows, it makes it very hard for Hoster 4.x to run correctly.

We have pushed the limits and are using all the latest and greatest technology available to us as APP developers. :)

Yesterday we found a Microsoft bug that was giving our Beta Testers a lot of headaches when using dual-displays... out of sync lyrics, crashing songs in CUE status, lyrics sweeping in the Preview display in Hoster behind or ahead of the Show Display, and a few others. We found a way around this, and it is now being tested. Keep your fingers crossed!

We WILL solve the problems... always have, always will.

Vista has added instability never seen before.

When you report a problem, please give us as much facts as you can. and please remember, emotions don't solve problems... facts do. If everyone posts facts, eventually the root cause will surface. :)

Thanks. I had not run Belarc for a while. It came up with 5 I had to re-install and 6 that were not installed at all for Office 2007. This is really good advise and points out the falability of Microsoft's Update site.

Hoster 4.x issues

Thanks D. Douglas and m.manthie for your help and suggestions.

I didn't realise hoster 4.x only works with 44.1Khz so that was a big help thanks for that.

I have downloaded and installed belarc advisor as was suggested, and it finds no problems to report, I have downloaded from microsoft every update known to man, inc all custom's, I have downloaded H4.01 and re-downloaded and installed but still have issues.

My laptop is a P4 2.66 mhz with 1GB ram, SIS audio/graphics,
win xp home, sp3, ie7 with media player 11 + all updates as i stated.

I am still gettin' scripts errors at line 40, bad screen flickering when song first starts to play, then no lyric's and no dual display.

My desktop pc is a Amd athlon 4ghz with 1GB ram, win xp home, sp3,
ie7, media player 11, and all updates inc custom, when i launch H4.01 which has been re-downloaded and re-installed, i get "unknown (4001) followed by not enough memory boxes, report to microsoft, and finally an illeagal opperation.

I have monitored the task manager during startup of hoster and can't see anything wrong, or anything using up exessive memory.

Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

Thanks
Dave (London UK)
