Lost all songs?

Hello,I installed the new up date and could not find my songs I read a little on the help forums and tried building the song data base and eventually just tried installing and reinstalling the new program. This was a big mistake because when I removed the program I think I lost all my music. I have tried system restore a few times but I can't get it back. I did have some music backed up on an external hard drive that I have tried to put in but it comes up error on some songs I have rebuilt the data base so many times nothing seems to work right. Did I loose all my music when I removed the program? Can You help me get things working right again? I'm using windows xp oh I have even defragged my c drive. Thank You , djcharli

removing hoster wont delete all your kma files, click on my computer, right click on c drive ( see if your kma files are there ) if so.open hoster, click on tools, rebuilt song data base, delete whatever is on the drop box, clcik on select again if your kma files are on c drive, choose c drive, then click on rebuilt song data base...see if that will work

Open Windows Explorer, click on the C: drive, then click on the search button. Set it to search Files and Folders and put *.kma in the blank.

I am going to bet that your KMA files will be located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\MTU\Songs. MTU moved them from the Program Files area to be compatable with Vista. Vista does not like having any files in the Program Files area that are working files (files we write to).

When you find your kma files, do as Billyo said. Open the rebuild database delete the entries in the window and add the path you found for your KMA files, then rebuild.

kma

Hello I did the search and all I came up with were the files that I brought over from my external drive after I lost all my songs but of course all my songs were not on my external I really think that I deleted all my songs when I removed hoster and reinstalled it.

you need to re-install hoster for all this stuff to work, if you did a system restore did you do it on a date after you imported all your kma file? if so i think you'll lost "em

I also downloaded the upgrade and lost all my songs, luckly I had them backed up on an removable hard drive. What I did was reset my computer back to an earlier date and it removed the update, but I did lose all my songs. The program directed me to a file I could not find
It worked for me hope it works for you It wiped it clean

I apologize folks. I think I told you the wrong folder to look in for your KMA files. According to the manual it should be C:\Songs.

Wheretheheckarethey?

Why wasn't a shallower path selected? The drill down seems to slow things down. For those of us who have nuked Vista to return to a more reliable, friendly and stable platform (XP Pro), can we move the /Database, /Songs, /Manual, /SongBook, /Playlist to one readiy accessable directory, perhaps like the Public or some other shared directory?

I just installed the 3.319 upgrade and like several others that have posted, I lost all of my songs and now have stuff scattered all over the local hard drive. The old Songs directory is there, but is empty. I have had to move over 10k kma files from the backup external, rebuild the song database, re-do my songbooks and create shortcuts on the desktop to find my stuff!

I like the changes and improvements that are continually being made to Hoster and it is by far the pre-eminent KJ software, but scattering the program & data files to the 4-winds, I don't understand. Perhaps permitting us to select where we want the 1) program to be installed and 2) where we want the data files to be stored, with default selections and recommendations would be a better solution.

Regards & keep up the great work.

Of all those items the only thing you can move is the \Songs. If you move any of the other files the program will not work. The purpose of moving the files is to get compliant with Microsoft for all their operating systems.
As an added benefit, by moving those files where MTU did it will allow for each user on the computer to have their own Songs database, playlists and Songbook.

Your song files (KMA) should have been moved to C:\Songs according to the manual. If they are not there look in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\MTU\Songs.

Again, all this was done to be compliant with what Microsoft has designed the operating systems to work with. You and I may be using XP and not have a problem with the previous locations, but Vista is a real stickler for programs following the rules set by Microsoft. If they don't then you have seen what happens since you originally had Vista.

You have always been able to select your KMA files location and still can through the Import screens and the Build Database screen. Many of us put our KMA files on external or additional hard drive to protect those files from system hard drive crashes.

When you first ran Hoster 3.319, were you told that your songs had to be moved? If so, they should have been moved to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\MTU\Songs. Right after the move, you should have been informed that your Songs Database needed to be rebuilt. As long as you pressed "OK" for all of the prompts, your Songs Database should have been rebuilt just fine.

I just took the following steps:
  1. Uninstalled Hoster 3.319
  2. Cleared out my Hoster settings in the registry (I don't suggest you do this unless you are very comfortable with registry editing)
  3. Installed Hoster 3.318
  4. Added some songs to C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Songs
  5. Built the Songs Database using 3.318
  6. Closed Hoster 3.318
  7. Installed Hoster 3.319 (using the "Upgrade" option)
  8. Opened Hoster 3.319
    1. At this point, Hoster 3.319 told me that it had to move my song files -- I pressed "OK"
    2. After the move, it informed me that my Songs Database had to be rebuilt -- Again, I pressed "OK"
    3. After all was said and done, all of my songs were available in the new location using Hoster 3.319
Does your system have a C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music folder? If so, was a new folder called "MTU" created under that folder? And does this MTU folder contain a "Songs" folder? This is where your files should have been moved to. You can get to this folder by opening the "Shared Documents\Shared Music" item in Windows Explorer.

Us, too. I find that it happens only if I am using the songs database installed on an external drive. It is OK wen everything is on the C drive. I first thought it was a memory issue, but proved that wrong.

You might try removing all items (except your antivirus) from the systray and see if it helps. If not, then temporarily disable your antivirus & try again. When I had Norton AV and internet security installed, I was having problems with Hoster and other audio/visual programs. I now use the Shield Deluxe and have had no problems.

Is your External drive connected with USB 1 or USB 2? If it is USB 1 the transfer speed may be to slow to work in that case.

All of our USB equipment is 2.0. Two of the drives have 1394 firewire connections as well. I haven't tried the firewire connection, since it is primarily used for our desktops. The processors on the laptops are AMD64's and we have 2gb RAM on one and 1.5 on the other.

I am going to repartition and do a complete deep reformat and then recopy, putting only the kma files and my mp3 DJ music on the externals. At one point, I had installed Hoster to run from the external and perhaps the system is a bit confused as to where the dll files, etc. live.
