Lost all songs?
Hello,I installed the new up date and could not find my songs I read a little on the help forums and tried building the song data base and eventually just tried installing and reinstalling the new program. This was a big mistake because when I removed the program I think I lost all my music. I have tried system restore a few times but I can't get it back. I did have some music backed up on an external hard drive that I have tried to put in but it comes up error on some songs I have rebuilt the data base so many times nothing seems to work right. Did I loose all my music when I removed the program? Can You help me get things working right again? I'm using windows xp oh I have even defragged my c drive. Thank You , djcharli :?

Open Windows Explorer, click on the C: drive, then click on the search button. Set it to search Files and Folders and put *.kma in the blank.
I am going to bet that your KMA files will be located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\MTU\Songs. MTU moved them from the Program Files area to be compatable with Vista. Vista does not like having any files in the Program Files area that are working files (files we write to). When you find your kma files, do as Billyo said. Open the rebuild database delete the entries in the window and add the path you found for your KMA files, then rebuild. |
Update?
Hello I have not tried this yet because I used system restore and I don't have the updated version of hoster now and I don't know if I should reinstall this before I do any thing else, also I'm using XP
Thanks for all your help I'm so upset that I messed this up so bad!!:m |
kma
Hello I did the search and all I came up with were the files that I brought over from my external drive after I lost all my songs but of course all my songs were not on my external I really think that I deleted all my songs when I removed hoster and reinstalled it.

you need to re-install hoster for all this stuff to work, if you did a system restore did you do it on a date after you imported all your kma file? if so i think you'll lost "em |
reinstalled
Hello I did a reinstall but the only songs I have are the ones I brought over from my external I did the system restore after I did the update and I couldn't find my songs.

Removing and installing Hoster does not delete your KMA (song) files. The only way you could have done that is if you restored back to before you had imported them. Did you look in the folder I told you to look in? That would be where Hoster moved them.

Folder
I did do that but the folder is empty

I don't think you can undo a Restore. Billyo is right though in that most of us keep our songs on an external or second drive so that the C: doesn't get filled up with song files. This allows the C: drive to have plenty of space for operating your programs without slowing down.

Removing or reinstalling Hoster will NOT remove your KMA files. Removing a program can ONLY remove what was installed, not what was created after installation.
I expect when you did the restore back to a prior point, and THEN loaded more KMA files in, that is when you overwrote your prior files. We are all sorry this has happened. It would be best to save your KMA files on an external USB drive. FYI... we sell our 500GB small format USB drive for $299. Forgive me for being commercial at such a time, but now is the to make a decision. |
ouch........having to re-import your library is no fun :e

I also downloaded the upgrade and lost all my songs, luckly I had them backed up on an removable hard drive. What I did was reset my computer back to an earlier date and it removed the update, but I did lose all my songs. The program directed me to a file I could not find:?
It worked for me hope it works for you:s It wiped it clean:f Jim |
I apologize folks.:f I think I told you the wrong folder to look in for your KMA files. According to the manual it should be C:\Songs.

when you un-install are you deleting the micro tech folder too ?

Why wasn't a shallower path selected? The drill down seems to slow things down. For those of us who have nuked Vista to return to a more reliable, friendly and stable platform (XP Pro), can we move the /Database, /Songs, /Manual, /SongBook, /Playlist to one readiy accessable directory, perhaps like the Public or some other shared directory?
I just installed the 3.319 upgrade and like several others that have posted, I lost all of my songs and now have stuff scattered all over the local hard drive. The old Songs directory is there, but is empty. I have had to move over 10k kma files from the backup external, rebuild the song database, re-do my songbooks and create shortcuts on the desktop to find my stuff! I like the changes and improvements that are continually being made to Hoster and it is by far the pre-eminent KJ software, but scattering the program & data files to the 4-winds, I don't understand. Perhaps permitting us to select where we want the 1) program to be installed and 2) where we want the data files to be stored, with default selections and recommendations would be a better solution. Regards & keep up the great work. |

As an added benefit, by moving those files where MTU did it will allow for each user on the computer to have their own Songs database, playlists and Songbook. Quote:

You have always been able to select your KMA files location and still can through the Import screens and the Build Database screen. Many of us put our KMA files on external or additional hard drive to protect those files from system hard drive crashes. |
