Smile Program crashes when trying to import from Hard Drive

I have over 52,000 songs that are zip files in the subfolders of folders, example..... Soundchoice - Brick One - SC8934 - zip file. I am currently using sax and dotty (but only because I can't get hoster to work)... which takes about 10 minutes to import the whole thing. It works in conjuction with winamp and unzips then zips back up after use. However, I paid good money for the MTU hoster program and would like to be able to use it. I can't believe this is so hard to do. All my songs are configured the same way too, as in disk name, track no, artist, title. I saw the thread about mp3+G from several folders and thought, hey good idea, this should work for me and the zip files. So I searched for the zips and found all 52000 of them. I did a sample of about 461 of my all hits. When I tried to import them the first time it did about 140 of them and then crashed, and now it just crashes every time I try to import the other 320. It says that it has encountered a problem and must quit. I really hope I can get some support on this. I tried to get phone support but good luck on that. Can anyone here help me? Thanks

This one folder that you have the 52k files in, how large is it, under My Computer? I think that Windows might have a limit to the size of the folder, I want to say it is around 40gbs of data in each folder is the max, before Windows will have problems.

You might try a smaller amount in one folder and see if it will work.

Also what version of Hoster are you running? Click on the Help Menu\About Hoster it will give you the version.

That is what I did

I tried it with 461 songs it did 140 and then said it encountered a problem and had to quit, whenever i try to finish the other songs still in the folder it just says it encountered a problem and crashes. If this is the Bryan from extension 204 of MTU. I wish you woiuld answer your phone or return my call. It sucks to have to wait a day to get an answer that wasn't an answer at all. If you read my post it says that I tried importing 461 zip files not the whole 52000, and windows didn't crash, your program did. I spent a lot of money to buy what I thought was the best equipment, and I thought your program was the best. I've had it for almost a month now and still am not able to use it. Please help. Also, I am using the latest version of hoster.

RPMZZZ,
Yes, this is Bryan from Extension 204. I basically stay on the phone all day, I am on the phone now. So if you call, this is why it goes to my voicemail, as I do answer the phone. Its just that I am always on it.

What version of Hoster do you have?

Please post back what version you are using. I need to know this, as there was a bug in an early version of the importing of .mp3+g and .zip files. That would do this, it was fixed from what I had tested in version 3.301, I believe.

I know 3.303 worked, as I had reimported a bunch with this.

I've got 3.303 also and my hd mp3g imports fail at 99 files every time with same error & I've only got 5000 to import.
Sure hope someone has a fix soon.

So be it I am not an expert on all this but I did just d/l the demo and couldn't get it to import the first zip I tried just one file. I would venture to guess that the problem is with one of the zips in your folder. Try playing it from the main hoster screen and see what happens from there. Just click the mp3+g tab and locate the file and add it to playlist and see if it works.

Good suggestion!

If it comes up with an error try unzipping it and play it as a mp3+g.

We have 6 or 8 error traps to prevent adding bad ZIP files to our Songs Database. The suggestion above about playing from the "Add Tracks - MP3G button", is excellent. That will show an error message if the file is bad.

Hoster's "unzipper" does not handle ZIPPED "MAX Compression" files.

The reason we take more time/complexity to import than S&D is our Song Book. We "enforce" filling in all the required fields before you can import to insure your Song Books will format as you think they should.

However, we gave our Import Hard Drive Files screen incredible flexibility... which is why it is complex to understand at first.

Please... read the manual on the Import Hard Drive Files screen. There are lots of examples, tips, and an explanation of how it works.

Sometimes I wish we hadn't bundled the Song Book into Hoster. It would have made life for MTU a lot easier, but we did what our customers years ago requested time after time. Also, the BookID that we provide for your customers makes life easier to submit songs, but again adds complexity to importing. Every track is forced unique, and grouped by DiscID.

How do I clear my database so it shows no songs and I can start over. I went to the database file in hoster and it has a key on it and won't let me open it

After you've deleted the KMA's go into the database folder and delete "songs" and "songs backup" and you'll be just like new.

To clear your database file, just delete the songs.mdb and the backup database too. Do not delete the Bucket.mdb file as that is the information database for Hoster.

When you open Hoster again it will rebuild the database file.

Delete your .kma files, wherever they are located.

Then go to the C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Songs folder and delete the Songs.mdb and songs_backup.mdb files.

Now when you reopen Hoster it will rebuild this with an empty database.

Having a little more luck

There must be something wrong with my All Hits folder. I have succefully imported my Backstage and Amerising stuff with only two errored files and it didn't crash just told they were errored files, next up is my chartbuster, 11,000 plus, wish me luck. I did it by searching for zips in all folders and subfolders and then copied them to another folder to import from there. I am putting the converted files into a folder on my G drive. How do I tell the program to look there instead of on drive C

Go to tools/rebuild database, from that window you can add or subtract folders. If that's an external drive you'll need to make sure it is the same hard drive letter (ex: "F" or "G") each time or Hoster wont be able to find your songs when you go to play them.

Thanks

I think I figured it out. First I deleted the song database and the backup and then rebuilt it pointing it in the new direction on G and it worked fine.

Apparently after all this frustation and work I will not be able to use this program.

It turns out that a good portion of my 52000 songbase is in a zipped max compression format, which apparently is not compatable with this program. My legends baseline I got about 100 out of 500 songs to import, and dk karaoke was the same way and I have 11000 of those. I give up. Bryan can you help, or is that it... I'm screwed?
