3.319 Upgrade Failed

I upgraded to 3.319 on 2/22/08 on restart Microsoft must move my kma files. Next popup says files moved safely. When I try to open Hoster I get the same two popups.
I am running XP on a Dell Laptop Inspiron E1705, internal hard drive, fully updated. I am a singer and have about 1000 songs.
My (song) files all end in .kma
In the last hour or so, I removed the 3.319 version I installed on 2/22.
I installed the 3.316 version from my backup.
Now the Hoster program will start up, but when I play the first song I get
"c:\Program Files\Micro Technoligies Unlimited\Hoster\Songs\LG101.10kma
track missing"

Thank you for your help,
Gary

My files are still there

My files are all there.
But they have \Program Files\ in there and I thought I saw something about removing \Program Files\ from registry. I'm not sure how to do this part.
I'll be leaving this morning but will be back around noon.

Rebuild your database to the location that 3.319 moved them to.

Find the location where the files are, then open the Build database window and add the path to the list and delete the other one. Then rebuild.

Do you know how to use Windows Explorer to do a search?
As far as Building the Database the Hoster manual can guide you through that.

We discovered that we were not removing all references to the \Program Files\ path in 3.319. Our beta testers are playing with 3.320 right now. It solves this problem and 3 others we have identified.

We hope to release 3.320 Today or Thursday.

To rebuild the Songs Database:

1. Run Hoster
2. Click the Tools menu on the Menu bar at the top
3. Click the Build Songs Database command
4. In the Song source folders list window, make sure you have all folders containing KMA files here. To do this, use Windows Explorer or My Computer to locate the KMA files, then add each folder - one at a time - to this list using the "Select Folder" button.
5. After all folders with KMA files are added, click the Build Songs Database button at the bottom of this dialog.
6. It will build a new Songs Database with all KMA files found in the folders you entered into the list. If you didn't enter all the folders, their KMA files will be missing.

You CANNOT hurt KMA files by rebuilding the Songs Database. So, don't be fearful of doing this.

Read this Post about Hoster 3.320, and then download and install it.

The problem is in 3.318 and 3.319, now fixed in 3.320.

We too thought we had a virus when we unknowingly lost files not related to Hoster at all. We are confident we found the code that along with Windows' random operations did the NTSF index damage. We are confident we have fixed the problem, but only you folks seeing the problem repeatedly can tell us it is fixed.

Thank you for your patience. We truly are sorry this happened, and believe we have solved it.

Thank You for your help.

I removed 3.319 & installed 3.316 Had to rebuild songs database. Also removed the file that had \Program Files\ in it. Deleted all playlist cause they didn't work any more. Made new songs list and everything is working properly now.
I had a show on the 29th so on Thursday I was in panic mode trying everything I could to get my system working again.
I am not too sure about upgrading to 3.320 just yet. I think I'll just stick with what I've got for right now.
Thanks again for your help in getting back on track.

I'd wait a few more days until 3.321 is released. We have identified everything that was causing files to disappear (Vista is the culprit), and solve the problems. You can see our REQUIRED CHANGES page for 3.321 installation on Vista. There is no reason to make these changes to 2000 or XP. They resolve the Vista problems.

However, a new user installing Hoster on a virgin computer will get these C:\MTU\KMA Files and C:\MTU\Hoster folders created for them so everyone is on the same page from here on out.

When we release Hoster 4.000, it will use these new folders also. Thus, we will probably require these changes before you upgrade to Hoster 4.000, as we will require them for 3.321 when installing on VISTA.

Eventually, years from now everyone will be using Vista... or Microsoft will be out of business. I'll bet we all use Vista as we have gone from DOS, to Win3, to Win98, Win98SE, WinME (not me!), Win2000, WinXP, and now Vista coming. We'll wait for Service Pack #1 before we consider converting to Vista for systems we ship.

Read MTU's final analysis of what has been going on, and what to do to prevent loosing files in the future.
