I think that most of the Vista versions MTU and the beta testers have been using were upgrades direct from Microsoft without the computer manufacturer's modifications.
Admin, maybe you need to check with all (a poll?) and see which versions and whether they are retail or manufacturer install. Might surprise you!
I've got Home Premium and have had no issues with Hoster (except it took me awhile to figure out where Vista hid my songs.mdb).

The OS was provided by Acer though I had to instal it from the setup file which is in a hidden 10gig partition. It included a lot of extra's from Acer with no way to opt out. Some of it I can turn off from the processes tab in task manager, but I haven't figured out how to turn it off permanently
in msconfig.
