Same outcome.

Did you go back to the Custom update after finishing those 12 to see if any more were listed. Some updates depend on what is loaded on the computer. For example if .net Framework 2.0 installs the first time then the patches for that will show up the next time. So go into the Custom update several times until there are none left.
Are you using XP or Vista?

ollin March 18th, 2008 02:05 AM

i DID BUT NO LUCK, IM RUNNIG WINDOWS VISTA AND I HAVE YET TO INSTALL SOFTWEAR LIKE FRAMEWORKS OR OTHER THAT MAY NEED COSTUM UPDATE. MEAN TIME I KEEP RUNNING UPDATES EVERY DAY.:?

bobcox- with the Lord March 18th, 2008 03:09 AM

Get rid of Vista, just as fast as you can.

How To Correctly Upgrade Your Windows

  1. Updates are found at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST use Windows Internet Explorer to gather your updates. You CANNOT use any other Browser (Netscape, Firefox, Opera, etc.).
  2. When the page above appears, click on the Custom button. Your computer will be scanned for what updates are not installed.
  3. In the left column, select (click) all items under Optional Software.
  4. Click Install to start the installation.
  5. Once the updates are installed, if you see a message to restart the computer, you must do this before continuing.
  6. Repeat these steps again until you see 0 items to be installed.

If you do not install at least the .net Framework 1.0 the MTU programs will not install. Many of the other items are required for the programs to run correctly after install.

Are you sure Bob?

I have Vista Business on my work laptop. I went there the other day to see what was available. It seemed there were maybe 24 optional updates. Perhaps the business version it different.

I know with XP on this box it opens to a normal size window so you have to scroll down to see the custom button.

bobcox- with the Lord March 20th, 2008 05:26 PM

Vista business is what i have, and your right.:)
its just listed different than XP.
the only option i have seen so far is SilverLight.

dcrog March 20th, 2008 05:39 PM

I have my work box set to automatically download critical updates. But I thought there were optional ones.

I think they like to open explorer in a normal window so most people won't see the custom option. I wish, but they never will, they would let me go ahead and use Firefox to update windows. That's the only thing I use Internet explorer for.

Click on the Check for Updates and when the next screen comes up it should have Optional Updates. Those are the ones you need. Your friend may already have the .net Framework and the other optional updates installed. It is your computer's setup. There have been several requests for help with this error and getting the Optional Updates installed has always fixed the problem.

ollin March 21st, 2008 02:33 AM

Ok Dale When I Do That It Tells Me That There Is No Updates Needed Or Abalable For Me At This Time.

ddouglass March 21st, 2008 10:10 AM

OPen your Add or Remove Programs in your Control Panel, check the box up top to Show Updates. Look and see if any .Net Framework entries are there.
