Same deal again tonight, but went four hours with 55 singers and one mp3 audio played in themiddle of the show! Didn't use any instabuttons at all, but did a ton of editing and moving around tha playlist, hmm?

Without a crash..

Same deal last night too. 4-1/2 hr show beginning with four audio mp3's run in auto mode then 75 singers run in manual mode with one audio mp3 halfway into the show played too. Tons of playlist editing and mp3 instabutton use, fade in and fade out at 3 sec. each. Remove silence enabled with 3 seconds of added silence before song and 3 seconds added after song. Auto delay was 2 seconds. In an air conditioned room but laptop was not on a laptop cooler and no external fan either (wife had to use it). Again, no freeze or crash issues.

Anyone else run VirtualDJ up on the screen during shows, and those that do, do you minimize it while hoster is in use. I had always had both programs up and showing on the screen with Hoster on top taking 3/4 of the screen and Vdj taking 3/4 but placed a little to the right so a piece of one program was always showing for super quick access. Wondering if all that makes a difference? Thinking out loud again.:c

I had another flawless show last night...

Kod,
Do you minimize vdj when hoster show is running, or do you always have both hoster and vdj screens showing on your laptop screen at the same time. If so, are both maximized, or is one or both slightly reduced in size so as to see a portion of one while the other is on top?(as I do).

I have never been able to have vdj open at the same time as Hoster unless I minimised one or the other. I always had this problem going back to when I used XP and versions 4.xxx, thats why I only use it for DJ only nights.

Bryant,

I minimize VDJ while using Hoster and toggle between the two as needed. I never have both accessible on the screen at one time. While a Singer is singing, I maximize VDJ to set up the next Dance Song and then minimize it until needed.

VDJ takes up the whole screen, not leaving the task bar open, so I have to minimize it to get back to Hoster.

I never minimize Hoster at any time during the night...

Thanks for your input (KOD, too).

Hmm, that's what really gets me here too Roy and Kod, is that with prior 4.09D version and windows XP with a very much "weaker" laptop and video card, I did this all the time with Vdj and Hoster (Up and showing at the same time) and actually playing videos and slideshows on Vdj while moving things around on the playlist on Hoster, then clicking a portion of Vdj skin to get it to the front and adding changes to its playlist while Hoster was playing. My wife still does that with her 4.09D version on a daily basis.

When I had Vdj up with H5.07, it was just "sitting" there, nothing loaded on the decks and nothing in the playlist.
What does or can a prorgram do when it's skin is on the screen with Hoster that can be so damaging to the running of Hoster (ver 5.07 that is)?

However, there have been freezes and crashes particularly at the end of songs with version 5.07 with some other non-vdj users too. That confuses me as I have not had one crash yet when Vdj was off and not running at all.

What problems did you have when VDJ was open and up on the screen, Roy?

I remember if I played a vdj video and forget to deactivate the skin's video screen by clicking on it, Hoster would crash the very next song, but that was MY error.

So minimizing a suspected program seems to do something to the program that prevents it from "not crashing" another running program?? Is this correct??

That was the problem I had and I would often forget to deactivate it.

Pass :r
I suppose both trying to use the video causes a conflict.

Hmm, still thinking about this. How does one program "try"to use the video when it is just sitting there with no videos loaded and an empty playlist?

I'm in the process of loading a bunch of videos just for testing purposes. I have never had anything to do with videos since it became availablle in Hoster. I have really abused Hoster 508.B1 as I have mentioned in previous post and have had no issues. I always use BA, RS, Tempo is always on and I use the InstaButtons for audio only. NO PROBLEMS. So, I thought after reading many of these posts it was time to start experimenting with videos. Maybe I don't get it but why do any of you use videos at a karaoke show. What do you run and how do you apply them to the show. I guess I'm a little slow in that department. I always felt karaoke shows are for singing so I don't get the videos. Any feedback will be appreciated and in the mean time I wil start trying to crash Hoster with videos.:g

Friday night I used Hoster for videos, mp3's, and instabuttons and about 38 singers. No crashes. Closed Hoster, opened up VDJ towards the end of the night to play mp3's and video's, then they asked for karaoke again. Closed Vdj, opened hoster back up and they sang a dozen more songs. All this in a four hour show. No Crashes.

Saturday night. Played Vdj for about one hour using mp3's ,w/slideshow and video tracks. They started singing 1/2 way through the night, brought up Hoster and "Minimized Vdj, had a crash after an hour and half of singers, then another crash 15 minutes later.

Still don't want to blame Vdj, as it was minimized like others do with no problems.

If You need to step up your game, then you'll need a program like VDJ for slide shows of the previous weeks show pics while running dance music people can enjoy and hot videos with video effects and a alot of other things like VST's during intermissions....and alot more, ....wish they fix this video issue...

Depends on the venue and the mood of the crowd, sometimes if they're having fun, it could be one hour or even longer, but for the must part it usually ranges from 20min to haif hour..

I've run some heavy clubs that 10min was too much, but now I'm taking a break no matter and those who don't get to sing still have fun with all that I have to offer...

So it really comes down to your intertainment ablility and the tools that you use to accomplish that task...

Interesting. The singers where I play are ready to lynch me if I play to many dance songs between karaoke. Never tried the videos or slides.

Show them their faces on screen and give them some eye candy and no need to explan what you do and how you do it, if you do it well..

Just know you can't please everyone, you will always have those that will complain, it's the nature of the beast, don't let them wag your tail at all...

Walt and I must play at the same type of venues with the same serious Karaoke Singers!

I NEVER takes intermissions... From the moment I start to the moment I stop, there are no breaks. The only slight break I get is during a dance song which is every 4-5 Singers. If no one dances, I go even longer between dance songs!

I time my bathroom breaks for 4 minute (or longer) songs.

I only have a Singers monitor at my show. I want the audience to look at the Singer, not a monitor! I do not ever play videos or regular music.

The way I operate is by my own choosing and I like it that way (my Singers too)!!!

It sounds like you run your shows the same way I do. Most of the dance music I play is for the women. Very few men get up there. The women want the "cupid shuffle; "electric slide", etc. I try to get away with as little dance music as possible when it is supposed to be a karaoke show.

Walt,

Basic same here, but until New Year's Eve this year, I had never played even the first dance song.

However, the owner doesn't see it that way and so I had to reluctantly start playing dance songs. My dedicated Singers don't like it either, but understand my predicament and have accepted it...

It has been and still is my belief that Karaoke night is Karaoke night, not dance night. At private parties, I do whatever the person paying me wants!

In the last hour of my show, I stop playing dance songs because after the Karaoke show, while I'm breaking down, I play dance songs until I have to shut the computer down (~1 hour)... I shut it down last!

Used my new laptop for the first time on my Sunday night gig( At a Casino with two 70 inch screens facing a slot machine area high up on a stage with an audience of 100 people, and more like another 1000 in the gambling area.

Virtual DJ was never even turned on and neither was McAfee Antivirus. Well, Hoster crashed about 2 1/2 hours into the show. Had to restart Hoster. When I did, the singers's screen and two 70 inch screens showed 1/2 size vertically (okay horizontally though) and had to take a few seconds to resize to full screen. This was the first time Hoster crashed when it was the only program on and running.

The only thing different that I did try was fade in and out was 2 sec., instead of 3 sec. And remove silence's added silence was 2 sec., before and after, instead of 3 sec. At least I know that this has nothing to do with Vdj, but maybe the settings. Oh, it crashed after a hdmp3g song. So I have had crashes with all file types now.

I'm gonna go back and use Hoster only running with these settings at 3 sec. Instead of 2. So far, this combination hasn't had a crash yet after maybe 3 or 4 hundred singers total.

I was having a problem with hoster crashing 2 or 3 times a show with nothing else running on the computer. All updates done. About a month ago I turned off BA. Have had NO crashes since. Maybe this info will help.
