I bought a new Toshiba Laptop, It came with a CD drive that does not read CDG. I bought a new Plextor CD drive model PX-S88TA, I upgraded the firmware. It works with Hoster 3.316 but causes Microstudio 3.004 to lock up the whole computer when I hit save to set the default read/write drives.

Any ideas of what I can do, or what CD drive can I get that will work?

Microstudio 3.004 was still using the old method of drive interface and so will not recognize the new Plextor drive. You need to upgrade your Microstudio to the latest version.

The manufacture date on the drive is June 2002. Microstudio 3.004, I bought last fall (2006) so the program is new???

According to your first post this was a new CD drive. :? However, if it is working with Hoster 3.316 which is using mmc interface for connecting to the drive, then Microstudio 4.001 should also work as it uses the same interface. Microstudio 3.004 used a hardware specific interface meaning if the drive does not have driver information included in Microstudio's library file then it usually won't work.

I guess I should have stated it was a unused drive. It is a new left over model.
Thanks for the advice.

It sounds like the drive is the problem. Does Microstudio recognize the Toshiba internal drive?

Yes, but when I select the save button on the Default Drives screen the program and the computer locks up.

OK, let's backtrack a bit.
Make sure you have the latest firmware from Plextor for that drive.
Also, make sure you have all the Windows updates. To do this you have to use the Custom update, not the Express update. This will get a list of everything they have instead of just the "Critical" ones.

Dale's advice is exactly right. Usually it is a Windows Update problem or the drive is not functioning correctly. This is a "system related" problem, not a software bug from what I can see. Not trying to pass the buck, but rather make sure everyone is diagnosing down the right path.

Let us know when you are running or not. We all want to get you back up and happy.

I don't think MTU is set up for LP's yet but the best is a PX760 Plextor it works well with PC.

:f I've been having problems with importing. Certain disc will do these, e.g. ASK, SC;s Chartbusters. 'twill only record to the next to the last tracke.g.1-16 only to 15, etc. I've had success with ************.com CDG burner prog. But I like MTU in many aspects.

LP's?
Actually the PX760 is getting scarce now as Plextor has moved on to newer models that are not listed as CDG compatible. MTU switched to an NEC model that works great, but I can't remember what the model name is.

Hello Douglas, I did not know that they are fading away the 760's. HP's has models too that works you'll just have to read the specs.

First thing is please post your problem in a new thread rather than tagging it on a totally unrelated problem. This hides your problem and also detracts from the current discussion. Welcome to the forums.:g
Are there 16 song titles listed on the label or only 15? Multiplexed discs will have an extra track listed that is about 20 seconds long and is not a song file and not necessary for play.
If there are 16 titles then does Microstudio only list 15 tracks or does it list 16?
