Red face Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

A simple process I\'m sure but just refresh my memory as to how to remove Hoster completely from one laptop and install on another, including song files which unfortunately, I do not have on a separate hard drive.

My gratitude as always.

Sincerely
Lloyd Tk

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

My advice would be to get yourself an external hard drive, they are relatively cheap now. Then copy all your music files to it.
Then follow Waltr advice and create a backup file of Hoster from the Help Menu/ Backup/Restore, you can create the backup on the external hard drive.
Then uninstall Hoster (while online) to free up the registration code allowing you to install on another computer.

Then you can decide if you want to copy all music files over from new external or use the external as the music source.

You can then use the Help menu / Backup restore feature to restore all Hosters settings and databases.

If you choose to run from the external hard drive you will need to inform Hoster that the drive letter has changed, to do this open Tools/Edit Songs dialog and select the (my drive letter has changed option)
If you have problems after useing this feature then you may have to rebuild the database.

You could copy all your songs files over to new computer by hard wireing but im not going to try explaining that here.

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

Im needing to transfer Hoster from one computer to another. I think I can do that but my big question is: where is the folder located that has all my singers and their song list. I have over 25 regulars that have bid song lists. I want to be able to transfer them over. also, the versions im running are older (if it works don\'t fix it lol) but figure ill need to prob upgrade so ill need to do that also. One of my licenses is on a dead computer so ill need to know how to get it freed up, upgrade it, and reinstall on a new computer

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

Depending on how out of date your versions is, the Data folder contains all your singers records. The default place is (unless you altered it at some time)
C:/ProgramData/mtu.com/Hoster/

It can be hard to find because ProgramData is a hidden folder.
To find it you need to set explorer to show hidden folders.

Easiest way to find is open Hoster go to Tools menu and select Hoster data folder. A dialog will open showing the path in the brows box or you can view the files in it.
But as stated in previous post use the create a backup file of Hoster from the Help Menu/ Backup/Restore, which will copy and create a clone of your existing Hoster settings.

To free up your existing dead computer you will have to create a support ticket, http://help.mtu.com/support/tickets/new

You will probably have to log into your account to create the support ticket. The shortcut i pasted wont take you direct unless your logged in.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I have not had reason to contact support myself since the lockdown so no idea what\'s going on.

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

I even offered to pay for upgrades and an hour of \"professional help\" for $75. Got nothing...crickets. I always have gotten great assistance before...I also noticed the help now on the actual site hasn\'t been available for a week at least. I really don\'t get it. I had to cancel 2 shows last week and took a day off of work hoping I could get some assistance and get up and running but I couldn\'t get a response. I love the software which is clear beings ive been using it for over 15 years lol. another problem I have is since I ripped all my cdg\'s in with hoster making them kma files I haven\'t found other software that read kma. thank god I have a bunch of my music saved as mp3\'s. im really hoping to keep Hoster cause I know the program and am comfortable with it but what do I do if I cant get help. Ive already lost over $500 in cancelled shows etc. Give me some words of encouragement lol

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

It sure would be nice is the was a COMPLETE backup and restore function since there is always people asking how to do this. It should be as simple as buying an Apple product. You turn it only and your old backup is restore automatically. MTU has said before that it would take to long. That’s ok with with.

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

I think I\'m going to take the plunge and get a new laptop, let me make sure I got this right. I\'m going to use the backup feature to an external hard drive, then copy my song files to the external drive. Then delete Hoster from my current computer before I do anything to the new computer?

I want to use an external drive on the new computer so I know I have to point Hoster to this new location. What happens to all the imported files notes from notepad though sine they are going to have the wrong drive letter in the notepad file. Example below.

C:\\Users\\mikee\\Documents\\Karaoke Origional files\\Chartbuster\\200xx\\Cb20007-11 - Wright, Chely - Shut Up And Drive.zip
C:\\Users\\mikee\\Documents\\Karaoke Origional files\\Chartbuster\\200xx\\Cb20012-08 - Loveless, Patty - You Don\'t Seem To Miss Me.zip
C:\\Users\\mikee\\Documents\\Karaoke Origional files\\Chartbuster\\200xx\\Cb20026-07 - Brooks, Garth - She\'s Gonna Make It.zip
C:\\Users\\mikee\\Documents\\Karaoke Origional files\\Chartbuster\\200xx\\Cb20026-10 - Anderson, John - Takin\' The Country Back.zip

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

When you say (Then delete Hoster from my current computer before I do anything to the new computer?)
Dont just delete it, you must uninstall while on line, this will free up your registation to allow registering your new computer.
If you just delete Hoster the records wont show it has been removed.
If your music files were originally on your C drive and now you want them on your external you might be better using the edit dialog and select the (my drive letter has changed option)
You may find it better to copy all your music files to the external before uninstalling, then use the edit my drive letter has changed again before uninstalling, then check Hoster runs from that drive ok.
Once you know that works create your backup, then uninstal.
Then when you restore it should know where all your files are.

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

Yes, I didn’t mean just delete. My last question didn’t get answered. Inside each folder is a imported file log-Notepad, since my drive letter is going to change what effect is this going to have? Do I need to delete all those logs?
Don’t those logs tell Hoster that these files have already been imported?

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

Just ignore that file, dont delete it. If you change the drive path via edit dialog Hoster will update its database where all the file paths are.

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

I know there use to be a bunch of things you use to need to do to windows before you install Hoster but I looked that up and saw that information was from 2016. Do we still need to do all those things with windows 10 still

sorry I get lost in all these post. I followed these direction exactly so I don\\\'t know why it didn\\\'t work. I tried changing the drive letters like you said that didn\\\'t work neither nor did repairing.
When I go to import songs I get two message one saying You have chosen not to add MP3 Encoder support at this time.
If you would like to do this at some point in the future,
just click \\\"OK\\\". Otherwise, check the box below, and you
will not be asked again.Don\\\'t know if I should just check that, then I get a message saying the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
C:\\\\users\\\\melki\\\\appdata\\\\local\\\\temp\\\\MTUGetLame.exe

After I get past that I can rescan all the individual folders and re-import. I though I could do it all at once but that won\\\'t work. If I recall there is a 99 limit??

Re: Transfer Hoster from one laptop to another

The 99 limit is how many files to a disc id, dont think adding folders has a limit.
No idea why get Lame.exe not working.

In the help section of Hoster there are several videos (I think six) I wish MTU would make more videos on how to doing things especially transferring from one computer to another as this question gets asked all the time
