Complete Mirror Copy To Another Computer?

Hi All,

I have been using and currently still using my old laptop for gigs for years. The version is 5.10.
I've bought a new laptop and have Installed Hoster but haven't used it yet at a gig. The version is 5.35.01.

* I've set up the Singers Data base,

* Written comments beside songs on certain windows I've saved,

* Setup Sets of songs, with Keys, Notes etc, (where the Singer's name normally goes), for my Solo Gigs etc etc

Q. Is it possible to do a complete "MIRROR" copy of "EVERYTHING" to my new laptop?

Thank you in advance,

Lani

Re: Complete Mirror Copy To Another Computer?

I don't believe 5.10 had the backup/restore feature built in, I believe that was added around version 5.20 but you can check, from the help menu look for Backup/Restore.

You wont get an exact mirror image across different versions of Hoster so there no guarantee what I tell you here is going to work but it's a workaround.

I believe your version 5.35 has the Backup/Restore feature so first make a backup using that in case what I tell you here fails.

Once you have done that be sure to close Hoster 5.35 and find the main Hoster folder and rename it to something like Hoster2.
Now find the Hoster folder on version 5.10 (this is the folder containing the database and all the other data no music files) and copy the whole folder to a portable drive or memory stick, plug that into the 5.35 computer and paste it to the location of your renamed Hoster file so replacing it.
Now A word of warning, if your music files are on an external and you plug that into the new computer the file headers could get updated and no longer work on the earlier version so it would be safer to copy them rather than just use the same drive. Now check it registers as the same drive letter as it did on the other computer. If your music files are all on your C\drive then you would have to copy those over as well.
The path of the music files need to be the same for this to work correct.

OK ready to start Hoster as I said no guarantee cross versions will work but if it does the only thing that should be missing is the instabuttons as they are stored in the registry and we don't want to mess with that.
If it fails delete the Hoster folder and rename the other one back to Hoster or use the restore feature.
