Thumbs down Re-new songs database

I have been an MTU Hoster user/customer for many years and because it is full of extraneous songs, files, folders etc, I want to rebuild the songs/singers database within Hoster by first deleting the old database and re-entering a completely over-hauled one. What is the best way to do this please?

Ok, just to be sure I know what you mean, you want to completely re-index like starting from the beginning??? Do you presently have kma or kmh files? Depending upon how many songs you have, this can be a rather lengthy process. Please answer these questions before I give you my thoughts on how to go about this.

Red face Re: Re-new songs database

Hi Walt. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my inquiry. Yes, I think you have afairly accurately summarised my problem. Over the years, I\'ve added new songs and deleted others for various reasons and consequently there is quite a sequential disparity in my song index. All of my songs are .kma files and I have in excess of 7000. I want to update my song/singers lists by reducing the number of folders and streamlining the index reference numbers.

Kind regards,

Lloyd Te Kani

Ok. Before you start I would open Hoster and at the top right under HELP, do a backup of your current Hoster setup. By having KMA files, it takes up twice as much room on your hard drive so I would recommend when you re-index to choose KMH. This method places a small KMH file with the song you are indexing an saves you a lot of disk space. If you have room on your hard drive to do a new song index without deleting your KMA files this will give you an added security for backup purposes until you complete the new indexing. Or if you dont have the room maybe you could use another external drive to start your new indexing. If you choose the later make sure your drives letters are referenced properly when you start your song indexing. Next, I would access your PROGRAMDATA FOLDER in Windows (it is normally hidden unless you have changed it). If it is hidden you need to go to Widows Control Panel and access the Folder option to change the folders so they are no longer Hidden. Now what I would do for a fresh start is open Windows File Manager (Windows 10) or Windows Explorer on older versions of Windows. Scroll down on your C: drive to PROGRAMDATA, click on it and you will see MTU.COM. Click on it and you will see a HOSTER folder. Right click on the Hoster Folder and choose RENAME. You can rename it to HOSTER 1. Now you are ready to start the process. This is where you will need to have your Hoster Program in order to remove Hoster and then use it again to reinstall it. YOU MUST BE ON LINE NOW SO MTU WILL KNOW YOU ARE REMOVING AND RE-INSTALLING HOSTER! You will need your original email address you used for purchasing Hoster and your Hoster license. Normally the email and license will be present for you already when you open the Hoster app to start this process. Once you have Hoster re-installed, open Hoster and at the top you will see IMPORT SONGS. Click on that and then select the the top option, INDEX SONG FILES. Here you follow and select your options for indexing. AGAIN, I would use the option KMH to save disk space. After you finish this and are sure everything is ok, you can go back to the PROGRAMDATA FOLDER and locate the renamed Hoster file (HOSTER1) and delete it or you can just keep it. You can also locate your Hoster backup where ever you chose to save it and delete it too if you want. Again, if you are sure you have everything the way you want it, you may now delete the original KMA files to recover the disk space it is using.
I would print this out and go over it a few times to make sure it is clear before you start. Also before you start you may want to take the time to organize your song files by making the define order the same for all. There are several programs you can use for this but if you choose to do this, WARNING, make a backup of your songs first in case you mess up while doing the renaming. You dont have to do this but if all your songs are the same DEFINE ORDER the indexing will be much faster. Other wise you need to be aware that different companies use different define orders and you will have to change your setting for each company to make sure you have everything in its proper place,i.e, title, singer, disk i.d. etc.
There are other ways to do some of these steps but this is the way I have done it. If anything is not clear, please post any questions.

GOOD LUCK!
