A Little More Research

Opened Hoster and played list in AUTO mode
Keeps playing one song after another.
After 7 songs I am convinced it would just keep playing, if I must I will let the entire 3 HR List play to prove this point.
Once you stop playing Karaoke files Hoster only stays up for a few seconds and shuts down.
While a Karaoke file was playing I set up the new background music feature
and it worked, when I hit stop, but alas it doesn't cast the same spell on Hoster as the Karaoke files do and Hoster does indeed error out with the Background music playing.
The background music continues to play until you select send or don't send to Microsoft.
So Hoster doesn't like to be open if I'm not playing a karaoke file???

I wonder if a beta tester with XP were to download the exact same file on the site now and open Hoster and do nothing if the same thing would happen.
Just a query to help diagnose.

Thanks Again
Chuck

I Believe I Have Narrowed Down The Glitch??

The first thing I noticed was that Hoster did not shut down while the initial internet explorer window with the User Manual Pops up, it runs in the background.
After shutting user manual window and adjusting the window size of Hoster and here's the key un-checking always on because I run a one man show and don't usually have the lyrics window up all the time.
Then Hoster shuts down within 35-40 seconds.
Taking into consideration that a 3 HR playlist just keeps on trucking and I can add songs move songs etc. while it is playing I thought I would try one more thing.
I re-checked always on for show display and voila no more shut down.

Hope this helps some folks and MTU to consider what's going on.

Chuck

Chuck I know they will look at what you reported and may be able to come up with something. The more details they can get the easier it is to narrow it down.
I haven't had any problems with XP in playing Auto or Man except that I have a known memory error (my computer not the program) that pops up on me on occasion. This usually happens to me in the secondary functions and not during play and never when idle. Hoster is not the only program that does this to me and it is always the same instruction at the same address. I don't think any of the other testers with XP had problems with the exception of a couple who have known machine problems that they have not been able to track down yet.
The second release they did was only to correct a problem for Vista users that involved saving the Remove Silence information in files imported way back in a version 2.xx.
I think in your case your memory is definately too small. There are a lot of the new features that require even more resources than what the previous 4.0x versions have. With the addition of the Fade in/out, Remove Silence and Background Audio. The difference between what you are saying is your memory and what is reported by system information especially concerns me. This is not normal and may indicate something is wrong with it.

I hear you Dale I've been fortunate to run Hoster on this machine for a long while probably five years or so.I now have a workaround for my problem by just keeping the display always on but I still don't think that I should have to.

Thanks for all your hard work both in the testing and in the Forum.
I know I don't post often but I do read posts often something I believe we called sandbagging back in my Ham/CB radio days.

Chuck - I have just discovered I can replicate your problem on my new Vista PC simply by unchecking the Tools/Show Display/Intermission/Always On box.
Good find. Looks like it's one that slipped through the net.
It's good that you have found that checking this box is an effective work-round until it is sorted.

I did load 4.10 on my Toshiba laptop and it seems to be working. It is running xp and has 1.5 MB of Ram.
I realize that the memory may be the problem with my Dell laptop, unfortunately it only will take 1 gig of ram.

It may run OK without the visualization option, the only way to know is to try it. It may play initially but if you leave it on too long with all the other functions selected it may start to get over heated then you will start to get stuttering or jerky output. Every bodies set up is different, there are so many variables as to what else is running on your machine. The recommendations are really a warning not to expect all the functions to work flawlessly unless you have the minimum but no doubt you could run it with limited functions.

Roy.

It should be . The visualizations seem to jump the memory load up drastically. Best way to find out is to try it and see if you have any problems.

You may want to up your virtual memory according to the latest manuel, it states 4096:
Copied from the new manuel.
Change Virtual Memory Settings

This Windows setting determines how much hard drive space is fixed-allocated to swap RAM contents (i.e. running programs) when Windows needs to free up RAM for its own background tasks. If VM is set too low, you can see 5 to 20 second delays frequently in Hoster. Thus, you want to insure your VM is set correctly. The recommended amount is double your system RAM. More than this can actually slow WIndows performance.
  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Double-click Control Panel.
  3. In the window that appears, double-click System.
  4. Click the Advanced tab at the top.
  5. Click the Performance Group - Settings button.
  6. In the Performance Options dialog that appears, click the Advanced tab.
  7. In the Virtual Memory group at the bottom, click the Change button.
  8. In the Virtual Memory dialog that appears, click the Custom Size radio button.
  9. Ignore the Minimum size: value. Enter the Recommended size: value.
  10. Click into the Initial size: field and enter the value (3055 MB recommended if you have 2GB RAM).
  11. Click into the Maximum size: field and enter 4096 or up to 2x your installed RAM (MB).
  12. Click the Set button and then the OK button to close the Virtual Memory dialog.
  13. Click the OK button to close the Performance Options dialog.
  14. Click the OK button to close the System Properties dialog.
  15. Restart your computer now or shortly.
Roy.

Roy.

i have never had any problems with any hoster v4.xxx or any of the old version and i just took a chance and upgraded to 4.10 without doing any changes on my E1505 ,i'm doing a mocked-up show right now and just put in about an almost 2 hrs. worth of songs diff. brands in the playlist and i also added some vcd file the only thing it did was a mil. of a second glitched when adding vcd( dbl clicking ) while a song is playing.which is not very noticesable, and i've been switching it from man. to auto.i 've been adding songs while playing, songs are in sync, skipped silence is perfect and i don't see anything going wrong so far..i have never tried any of the other features yet , but i will, crossing my fingers

Background audio has to be turned on for the Talkover to work. When that is on the Talkover Button is a blue-green color and turns red when you click it, and back to blue-green when you click it off.

I only have one gb and everything works great except visualizations for the BA. It works for visualizations in the BA but it's slow, so I dont use it. It does work fine for the occasional audio song from the playlist, it just adds a couple seconds to the delay.

I think where visualizations are concerned processor speed is more important than memory (Dale correct me if I'm wrong), and your processor apears to be much better than mine. probably.

Sam

You have to put the songs you want to play for BA in a single folder (recommended no more than 200). Then browse to that folder not an individual song. Check the manual in the Advanced Features for Background Audio. It tells you exactly how to set it up and use it.
