burning speeds v/s player speeds
I'm I the process of purchasing the PX-708uf and I noticed that the slowest write speeds are as follows:
CD-R= 4X, DVD-R=1X,2X,4X DVD+R=6X-8X,4X,2.4X DVD+RW=4X, DVD-RW=1X, CD-RW=4x So, I checked the specs on my player and found my Player JVC MV-303 bk states that, "This player will play a "Burned Disc" if you record at slow speed. (1X, 2X, 4X)." It plays Plays Video CD/CD+Graphics (CD+G) / Audio CD. My confusion is which fomat is used when burning a CD+G ? The PX-708uf (external) (a=internal) doesn't specifically address the cd+g format. I may be answering my own question here but let me take a stab at it.... I would burn using the DVD+R at 4X or 2.4X speed (?) Thanks...Bob |

Bob,
Since you're primarily interested in CDG, you should know that MTU markets a CDG\DVD capable burner. It may be a bit higher in price than other sources, but they certify each one they sell to work with CDG. The software you'll need is Microstudio, for copying CDG's and KHP, for creating your own CDG's.Click on this link to read about them. You may want to consider the Suite, because of it's procing structure. http://www.mtu.com/karaoke-products.htm Just click on the individual product links to read about them. For more info, contact Dougc@mtu.com or call Doug Cox at 919-870-0344 ext.201 Take care, George Last edited by George; February 11th, 2004 at 11:25 AM. |

George , Thanks for your input and yes my primary use would be to back up and create karaoke CD+g's but on the other hand I have DVD's which I want to back up also. I'm probably putting all my eggs in one basket but I don't have a DVD rom which, the PX-708 offers in the same drive.
All that being said, I just got a phone call from Plextor and they informed me that 4x is the slowest speed that the PX-708 will write in the CD+G format. The reason why they don't mention that the drive will burn CD+G's is that they don't bundle the software to burn CD+G's. Knowing this I need to do research a bit deeper into the JVC karaoke machine read speeds (for which the CD was burned at). I also have a choice of software to look at too. Bob |

Bob,
I have the jvc 303 player, and use it as a backup machine at my shows. I am using the plextor 708a and am burning cdg's at "full speed" 40x. the jvc reads them just fine. A cdg player cannot tell what speed that a cdg was written at, and it doesnt matter to them, as long as the data on them is what it is looking for, and the sync patterns are in line.

gduns,
Thanks for the reply....I know sometimes not to trust my logical thinking. It didn't make much sense to my about the read speeds of the JVC but, I just wanted to be sure.... Thanks very much for you input...you've made this very easy now. Thanks again Bob |

Back Up DVD
If you wish to do a back up of your DVD's that has the copyright on it, you might want to buy the Xcopy software from 123 Studio so this way you'll have back up of both your CDG's & DVD's all done with this great Plextor 708 drive!!
