no sound, no lyrics on imported karaoke tracks

I have a new HP Pavilion dv6225us Entertainment Notebook PC which was purchased for installing Microstudio and using for karaoke. I have installed the program, all the windows updates, HP updates, and Microstudio updates. It apparently imports without error, but when I try to play an imported karaoke track, the seconds count down and the "save as" button flashes but no sound comes out. A black window opens for the duration but no lyrics are in it. I should note that audio tracks play just fine.

Could anyone help me with some troubleshooting tips?
TIA,
daisy

Vista or XP?
Did you do the Custom Update from Microsoft or the Express Update or the Auto update? If you did anything other than the Custom Update then you did not get all the updates.
