More demographics: Age range of Hoster users and Karaoke Hosts.

Just curious as where we are as far as chronology goes?

Gee what happens when all of us AARP seniors decide to retire? Does karaoke become a thing of the past? Like CB radio?

Sure I do.

Elvis Costello, Beatles - a little shelled insect, & Ed Sullivan the name of the theater that David Letterman runs his 'really big shoe' from...

I showed my kid an 8 Track tape cartridge and vinyl 45's/LP's, he didn't have a clue. He's seen reel to reel tapes before as we have/use an older Tascam 8 track multi-tracker.

And yes I do know what cb is lol.

AND FOR THE REALLY YOUNG THAT THINK KARAOKE IS NEW.

The Japanese didn't really start anything, they simply warmed up an old concept and put a few twists on it.

Back in the thirties you could go to a movie theater, and sandwiched in between a double feature,(that's right, two full length features), a cartoon, sometimes a continued weekly serial(Superman, Red Ryder Western thriller, etc) and world news, you may have a brief sing along session. There would be music playing and lyrics on the silver screen with a bouncing ball going from word to word in tempo to the music.

Sound somewhat familiar anyone ?

A bandleader named Mitch Miller enjoyed popularity with his reheat of it in a television series called "Sing Along With Mitch" sometime around the 50's or 60's, once again using the bouncing ball concept.

Major change is that the early versions had the lead instruments in the score.

So much for the history lesson.

49 and still going. Just about 14 years now. I owe it all to the great "BillyO" and DJ Greg Anderson out of Erie, Pa. Just about two of the best I have ever had the pleasure to watch, listen to sing and to my advantage the best "stage acts" I have ever outright stolen. God Bless guys wherever you are!!!

Oldie But Goodie

Looks like my partner (61) and myself (52) are right in there with the rest of you. Our audiences are usually somewhere between late 30s and up. We don't even "own" the newer songs - would have to bleep most of the words!! I've been hosting for 10 years now - my, my how the time flies. I always figured I'd be the oldest female karaoke host in our town and loving it.

Demographics

Hey Guys,

I've been doing this for about 4 years now. I started playing with Karaoke in 2000 as a hobby. Got good enough, according to my friends, to go out and do it in public. I've work in bars, but use the background music for entertaining during Happy Hour and during dinner, where I am the only singer. I also do 2 or 3 weekly shows at Retirment and Nursing homes. It is very gratifying and financially rewarding.

I'll be 72 years young in September.

Chuckster

HP Laptop dv4000 with 100 GB drive running Windows XP.
2 External Western Digital 120 GB drives
12,000 songs on hoster
29,000 songs on iTunes
I use a Fender 150 or 250 for my sound system. I don't have to sing over the bar noise, so these work great.

Hey Chuckster,
Good for you, I almost panicked though, when you said you were 72 this year, then I read September and smiled.
Relief.
It's no great thing to boast about your age, but isn't it great to say "Hey look at me, I'm still here and most of my parts are still working, maybe not as good as they did, but I'm still a contributor and giving some of those youngsters in their 50's and 60's a run.
I may still be the oldest at 72 last May, but I'd love to see someone older
come along to take the title.
Regards from across the pond.
Garry

Age is but a number.

Some are 70, going on 30, while unfortunalely there are also those who are 70, died at 30, but are still waiting to be buried.

All a matter of choice.
